Default Engine suggestion for dumas vee .40?

Does anyone have a good modern marine engine suggestion for this boat? I have the dumas hardware kit. I was also wondering... if i wanted to use a flex shaft instead of the old school linked straight shafts, doesnt the flex shaft have to be in some kind of nylon tube? thanks guys.

For sport running, the O.S. .32 SX-MX would be a good choice. The Prather hardware kit for a 3.5 hull would be an alternative to the Dumas hardware. Tower Hobbies sells Prather hardware if your LHS won't order it for you.

no. For flex tube you use either just a brass tube, or a brass tube with a teflon liner. I prefer just a regular brass tube and pleanty of grease myself.

As for motor.... that would depend on what you ultimately want the boat to do/what you wanna do with it. Myself, id put a .60-.67 in it, or at the least a "hot" .45... Its quite possible with a strong .60+ motor it could be a handfull to keep upright, but ya never know i supose. My 36" cat hull with a .65 can be a handfull but its just a sport boat and a bit fun to keep tame and still run it 50+mph.

Word to the Wise: OPS is no longer producing engines or repair parts. You can still buy what motors and parts that are still floating around in suppliers stock however. Shop around and get to know what company you think has the best support for parts. Marine engines take a good beating just with regular running, and can be a pain in the wallet if not familiar with tuning at first.
