Default Tuned Pipe Heat versus Radio Box

I know this is almost an impossible question because of all the variables BUT just some opinions would be appreciated!

In a Sport 20 Hydro (tuned pipe enclosed in cowling, front exhaust 21 straight across the box), how much space to I need between the pipe and the plexiglass lid of the radio box to keep it from burning, melting, and otherwise messing it up?

Any ideas or experience would be appreciated!

Also along the same lines, does a water-cooled header improve this and/or performance?

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend at least 1/4" of spacing. A water cooled header would help reduce the pipe temp. Another idea would be to substitue a piece of plywood for the hatch lid(but that does eliminate seeing into the radio box). However, I do not have any plexiglass radio lids on any of my boats.

1/4" is sufficient. In Connecticut the heat rises and there is air flow through the cowling (or there should be) to keep the plexi glass cover from getting burnt.

Does someone have a link on making a custom Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber radio box (or I was thinking about a fiberglassed balsa wood box) with a plexiglass lid ?
