rageman, if your still looking for a place to run boats here is a thought. the old lakehill race track fills with water and maybe you can look into runing the boats in the infield . it was under water for the last 20 years and was pumped out a couple of years ago for a reunion . it might be worth looking up the owner and inquiring about it.

rageman, the old track is at forest ave and highland ave in valleypark. if you go to msn.com maps and find 141 & forest ave go east till you find highland ave the track is just south of forest ave. click on birdseye veiw you can see the old track under water.

Thanks. I tracked it down with Google earth. Big gate blocking the front entrance. Unless full of pond scum it would be perfect.

Another new St. Louis nitro boater here. Went to Unger today to check it out and looked pretty good other than the mud that you had to go thru to get to the lake. When it gets a little warmer and dries up, I will be bringing my classic Octura White Heat V or my White Heat 4-60 to give them a run. I have been working on them all winter and my9 year old son is excited to get them going. Maybe I'll see one of you locals there.

I see two lakes on Google Earth, one on each side of 370 at the Missouri River. The South side one is huge. Both look like maybe a lot of trees/growth along most of the shoreline Good luch and let us know.

I made it to Frank Holten State Park with my son today. Not a big fan of hangin' out in East St. Louis, but it sure will be hard to find a better lake than this. Got real excited when the White Heat V got up on plane for the first time and seemed to fly with a beautiful rooster tail. This was much better than my experience at Unger last week. Boat kept wanting to nose dive and fill with water. Did a few amateur adjustments and ended up with hardly a drop of water in the boat this time. Got rained out and left after about 15 minutes but we got our fix, though! I would feel more comfortable if there were more boaters over there. Anyone plan on going soon?

We have been going on nice weekends for last few months. Usually around 11:30 - 12:00 . 5 to 10 guys most of the time. Phil

We'll see you over there. I have a White Heat 4-60 that needs to be broken in. My White Heat V has a two cycle Ohlsson & Rice, which is pretty user friendly. The 4-60 has a Hirtenberger HP .61 that has never been started. I have absolutely no experience with Nitro boats. Not to fear, though, I've been doing my homework. I guess it is obvious that I like the old school vintage boats.

Maybe we will get some nice weather next weekend. There are guys that go that have a lot of experience with nitro. I have had 9 or 10 nitro boats but now mostly run gas and FE. Phil

Well, I thought today (Sat 5/1) would have been a great day to see other boaters over at Frank Holten. No rain, no wind, water was like glass. I stuck around from about 11:30 to 12:30 and did not see any other boaters. Being by myself and feeling a little uncomfortable, I left. Was wondering if I was at the wrong spot, or if it was just that nobody showed. My only other concern would be that my boats may bother the fisherman.

I think most guys were worried about the weather. You can call me anytime and I'll let you know if I know of anyone going out. 314-258-5436. Phil

Went out to Holten today Sunday 5/9 and it sure was perfect! Got a good 30 minutes on the water with the White Heat V and it ran great. Still a little skittish taking it too far out because of retrieval. I will feel more comfortable when the other boaters are there. I have a couple of ways to get the boat, but did not want to excercise them. Will bring my nitro when I am positive that the experienced boaters are there. Plus, I'm waiting on my field box starting kit to arrive (Another $130 into this hobby!)

Sounds like a good day. We had Mothers Day plans all day or we would have been there. Maybe next weekend. Phil
