Specialk1 !

Its a pleasure to meet and greet you!

You are the King of AMPS and this thread!

You and Bill Payne (God bless him) were going toe to toe (posting pics of AMPS stuff) for a while.

I am familiar with Bill's stuff because he posted a lot of the same pics over at the Boat Racing Facts website (they have an RC boat thread going over there).

I have also posted lots of pics of other RC boats that I have as well as my real Baja and E&T Marine tunnel hull that I have at BRF.

Are you familiar with the BRF site?

Do you also post over there?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway,

I was looking through this thread when I noticed a pic of the Yellow and Orange Ex Caliber Wellcraft that you posted (posted it 2-9-2010 @ 4:17am).

Did you own this boat or was it a pic of someone else's boat?

Did you paint the white Ex Caliber Wellcraft boat with the yellow fade to orange with circular stripes?

Rick

Specialk1,

The pic you posted a few years back (2-9-2010) was an Ebay picture.

That Excaliber hull had the flames on the front - I bought it off Ebay a couple of weeks ago.

I love the paint on the Ex caliber you still have - very nice.

Check out the RC Stuff at the BRF site - Bill was into a LOT more than just AMPS boats n motors - he has pics of all sorts of RC boat stuff you don't see on this site.

Rick

I am looking for mhz or arrowshark drives I prefer mhz as I plan to run the boat a fair amount. I have done some thinking and as much as I love the looks of these amps drives it would be a mistake to run them. If you or anyone you know would like to do some trading let me know. I would also be interested in buying some without trade as well if they were a good price please call, text, or pm for more info. 918-527-5270 Chris

Default Amps International 402 Gas Outdrive Lubrication

Hello Everyone! I am hoping someone here could help answer a question I have about the outboard on this AMPS International Formula 402 Gas powered boat. I recently purchased this boat and just finished installing all new electronics, as this boat has Never been ran before! This is my first boat to have a scale outdrive. Still waiting for the prop collar to hold the prop on though. My question is, there are 2 small allen (hex) set screws toward the bottom of the outdrive. 1 on each side. As I stated, this boat was never ran, so will I need to pour some oil into the set screw holes to keep the lower drivetrain lubricated? Shown in the last 2 pictures. The last thing I want to do is destroy the drivetrain of the outboard as it is very desirable and Rare. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello BlizzardMan and welcome to the AMPS forum,

You can use any gear oil but I prefer a marine gear oil like Lucas because it will hold up better in the event that some water makes it's way into the case.
( I found some at my local auto parts store)
Keep in mind that there are two places on that out drive which require lubrication, the top half and the lower half are not connected. you should fill the lower half with oil up to the fill hole when the outdrive sits level. the purpose of the second fill hole is there to allow you to flush out the old oil with WD40 and is only found on the later outdrives.
It is important to not "completely fill" the reservoir because as the gears begin turning at high RPM's it will make the oil expand.

I use a little teflon tape wrapped 3 times around the treads of the grub screws to keep the water out.

The gears will hold up fine as long as you don't hit bottom or run through weeds.

Have fun and enjoy your new boat!

Thanks for your prompt reply 4square! I found some Lucas marine gear synthetic oil 75wt90, does this sound like it will work good? Also, I see a 3rd set screw oil hole right on the top of the out drive for the upper drivetrain lubrication, like you said for the upper half. How high should I fill this reservoir? I spent hours reading this entire forum and I am amazed at the amount of knowledge of these AMPS boats everyone has here, This is like the AMPS hobbies go to handbook!

That is the oil I have been using.
Just leave a little room for the oil to expand and you'll be fine.
In other words don't top it off.
