Default questions

I am thinking of getting a nitro boat. I have been runing nitro trucks for about a year.
I think i''m going to get the Miss Vegas. Will the Vegas handle choppy water?
What are some of the things to do to retrieve a boat out in the middle of the
lake? How often do you have to replace the prop?

Light chop, yes. Rollers, no.

Middle of a lake is going to take a retrieval boat...IE john boat or canoe. If it is a smaller pond, some folks use a fishing real with a tennis ball attached, or an electric RC boat.

Every time you hit something with it. I am sure you can "wear a prop out"...but I have never got to that point.

I just ordered a miss vegas and I have another question. What happens when the
boat capsizes? Does the engine take up water or is it sealed from water getting up the pipe etc.

The engine will get wet and there will be water in the pipe. However, it's not a big deal. Once you bring it back to shore, remove the glow plug, hold the boat in an orientation that will allow the water to run out of the pipe and engine. Pull the starter a few times with the exhaust port facing down. This will clear out the crankcase. Once you're done with this, reinstall the glow plug and start the engine. The small amount of water that might still be in the engine will rapidly evaporate once the engine is running.

Of more importance than the engine, if the boat has been upside down in the water, you should remove the radio box cover to confirm it's still dry.

I have a HPI truck radio, will that work with the Miss Vegas or do you need a radio with the steering rate knob?

The Vegas comes with a radio, but if you want to swap it out for a different one, that works.

Is there a trick to get the flex drive in the coupler, like loosing the engine? I ruined a flex drive shaft by forcing it in because it would not go in.

yes,

you have to turn the flex shaft while inserting, that will prevent unwinding of the cable (all the little strands).

If your stuffing tube and engine collet don't line up, you will need to shim your engine so that they do. If they do line up, and it is just a matter of having a hard time getting the cable into the collet, get an octura collet...loads better than that stock ones. I normally get mine from offshoreelectrics.com...but I am sure there are other places. Version one MV needs a threaded 5mm to 130 cable collet. The version two Miss Vegas needs a threaded 5mm to 150 collet.

I too had to do what Dan said...and twist my cable while installing it in the version 2 collet. The version 1 collets wore out pretty fast and folks were losing cables/props. I think they OVER corrected this problem withe the Version 2 collet...making it too tight...which makes it hard to get the cable into and out of.

I have yet to run my Miss Vegas because I'm waiting on a flex shaft from Tower hobbies. I would like to know about how long I can run on one tank of fuel with it being rich for break in?

About 5 mins. bring it in and turn engine so piston is down let it cool off , refill with fuel and go again .Do this three times and then start leaning 1/8 turn until it will just get on the pipe and leave it there, keep checking all the screws for tightness and above all have fun. oooops when you are done for the day clear all fuel from the engine and put some afterrun oil in and a couple of pulls on the starter.

I run fail safes on all of my boats and trucks.

it is a small expense when running $1000+ boats.

What type of glow plug does the Miss Vegas use? Is it a long or short plug, medium, hot or cold? I am limited to what my hobby store carries, so I might not be able to get an O'Donnell's etc.
