The TRX .15 pro
Since I've decided not to finish refurbishing the nitro vee I bought, is there a good candidate for the motor for some good speed? Preferably a cat. I'd like to do over 30mph, preferably over 40. I'm giving this boat one kinda last shot.
I am completely unexperienced at nitro, however I pretty good with electrics now.

RE: The TRX .15 pro
What size engine are you looking at using?
if its the .15, I don't believe there is a Cat small enough that you will be able to get 40+, with a good .21 however it is doable.

There are some Cat's made for electric power but it would take a lot of work to convert them over. Keep your eyes open for a used Aeromarine Mean Machine .18 as it would be easier to drop your Traxxas engine in that.
If going ot a Cat, dump all of the extra weight that you can. The onboard starter (convert to the pull-start), the RTS and lighten the motor mount.
