OS over the SS. Why? I had the K&B SS .21 and it was a pain to tune. The air-cooled head required a fatter needle. The muffler and flange are from the ancient exhaust throttled inboard and where the butterfly was only has a plug on one side. Why they didn't plug the other hole, I don't know. The combustion chamber was a blatant rip-off of Terry Keeley's heads. Terry's heads needed time onshore to help the head build heat before launching.

ALRIGHT!!!!! this is going good, I see the O.S. 0.21 outboard is winning 3 to 0. I actually just ordered both engines but planing to return one. Joe Monohan from 707 specialties says he really like the SS, and he has some rank under his belt. Thanks! Please help!!!! =)

Just look at the results of recent national races and records in 20 Stock Tunnel. I'll save you the time. The O.S. dominates the results.

Hey Jerry, did you remove the head shim from your O.S? Thank You, I already received the backcut 1440 from 707, nice looking prop. Any other advice you'd want to give for the VS1 with O.S?

Run 5 or 6 tanks of fuel through your O.S. before removing the head shim. Here's my VS1 setup:
1. 3 oz of lead attached to the front of the radio box.
2. C/L of prop 3/16" above the bottom of the sponsons.
3. Just a slight amount of down thrust on the prop.
4. 50% O'Donnell Boat Fuel.

Well, I would use another word... but think I'd get kicked off!!!

I'll stick to my SS motor.. Main reason, there's too many K&B spare parts in my collection to switch.. I have fun beating OS powered motors anyway!

Jerry, I already received the modded 1440 from 707, wierd looking prop, i'll receive the boat (VS1) and engine (O.S) this week. hopefully i be on the lake next weekend, i'll let you know how it goes! thanks again.

They did advertise it as being able to run 45 but haven't seen any claiming 57 yet as that would be a new record for a stock engine.
If the prop is the one that I'm thinking of, it was originally a Grim Racer 1440 mod that Mike used to do in small quantities. Mark Sholund then got the go-ahead to make them but he had trouble keeping up with demand plus his other prop work. Maybe Joe got his hands on one then started doing the work as there must be a lot of labor involved.

Here's a couple of "ob nut" photos that didn't make the magazine. That buoy 2 was a magnet for Mark's boats.

Hey OB Nut, Do you mind sending some picks of that Hot Shot, how far back to the rear of the boat is your gas tank? Where is your center of gravity, how many inches from the rear the sponson?

Since the motor has been taken off for winter, can't help on CG.. Boat is setup this way: standard 2 servo layout in radio box, 5 cell (aaa) rx battery, no weight added (for CG changes), tank is a Grimracer 7oz metal tank with 1.5" riser (tank is very near the transom), Dubro motor mount is used. Believe the prop was 1/8" above with a slight neg angle.

I later added about .5 lb of weight, right placed behind the radio box. This was to help stablize the boat under rough water conditions.

Hey Grim,

Took me a bit to remember, but that shot took me out of tying you for 1st over all in D sport(like) class.. Put me down to 4th overall.. It would have been fun racing you in a run off!

Default RE: STOCK K/B SS VS STOCK O.S. 0.21 OUTBOARD!

Hey guys THANK YOU!!!! I just came back from the lake. I need to thank RON, Jerry and OB NUT!!! It looks like i am getting true EXPERT advice with outboards. I set up a 24 inch dumas hot shot with a nice regular k/b w/gold carb, set-up (50% odonnel, 1440 b/c & modified crankshaft and sleeve) just like OB said and it runs really nice, feels very stable. And I just built the VS1 w/os, just like Jerry said. I was breaking it in today, O.S. does seem to not have the same torque but it does rev really nice. This prop allows for the engines to rev, but it does slip a little bit at the begginig. I cant wait to lean it out a little and remove the head shim. Jerry how many turns are you runinng? Once again, Thank You. If anything you guys can shoot at me, let me know!!! By the way I couldn't clock either becuase the winds where too gusty here in MIAMI today!!! Beautiful day though!!!
