1/2A Size Dumas Boat Club

If you dont want to fuss with a build there is this option nearly there just retrofit time.
I must say this is the best made micro off the shelf type for the buck, great fit and finish with the right hardware just needs something better for motor like an engine or a brushless motor. As shown with the TD .010 weighs in at 90.3g less RX and a 2S lipo for the servo hatch is 8.6g. The brass coupler in this case makes a nice flywheel just needs a little groove for belt start.

The throttled .020 should make a fast 9in micro nitro. I would imagine you could at least run in the pool up to 70% throttle. The hatch almost sets over the motor you would have to cut down the center post of the glow plug halfway by the looks of it. There is room to lay the engine on the side but you will need to have the glow plug wired up for 1.5v access tap. The TD .010 fits with room to spare only needs a lil exhaust strap for throttle. One last thing this is new to me the thin stickers on this boat has a clear coat of laquer so nothing to peel off all smooth no edges and I imagine fuel proof.

I have been posting pics in the last two posts but this site is not allowing them to show so after many attempts I will have to go to a better working site at RCGroups - Micro boats forum under the heading Micro Nitro Boats.

Very cool idea having a dedicated 1/2-A RC Boat thread. Many of us had our first rc boat experience building Dumas 1/2-A size kits. My first model boat was a Dumas Lil' Swamp Buggy. I free-ran it at our local casting pond. Many fond memories starting the Cox .049 prop engine, setting it in the water, then running around to the other side of the bank to catch it before it hit.

I feel bad starting a thread and then drop the ball but I've been struggling with my health the last couple of years. Very sad about not being able to play with you guys and disappointed I haven't been able to progress with any of my building. Frustration to the max. Lots I want to accomplish yet! I have everything in the house to start making boats and motors but just can't swing it...

Dave, when I make it down to Hobart in the fall I've got a lot of .049's and something else to give you (you'll like it!). You might have to remind me to toss the stuff in the trailer though. I don't have and use for these things anymore and give it all to someone who would use it.

Here's what I'm thinking. Adds up to about 60 bucks but its 2.7ghz and strong enough for a 1/2A rudder and throttle. Looks like the same unit thats in my micro glider. No seperate servos, no case...small. I'm wondering what lipo could power it. It sure would make for a light package, which these need. I remember playing with weights (lead sinkers) inside my Atlas hydro to see how much weight affected its speed and ride. It changed with the smallest slip sinker I had...

I've heard people ask about the boat at the HARM and, when told the boat was a replica, those that asked got all bent out of shape. Just wanted to make sure you knew what the boat actually is

I honestly dont believe that Dumas or anyone else on this thread intended to build a 18" scale replica of an actual real hydroplane, this is a hobby, a hobby that some of us actually participate in. Meaning that we actually build and run our models when they are finished and share with others of similar interest's... Unlike some certain people .....cough, cough...(hydro junkie) who has posted 4375 times on this forum and in those said 4375 posts has yet to even show a completed boat that he/she has built himself/herself.

This one is stable do to the front skeg deep rudder, surface drive and I added a right turn fin on the transom the fins get locked in by the rudder and the whole lot is pushed on by the prop. So it rides flat n fast like on a railroad track. I have not caught an edge yet up to moderate micro size water conditions. A small body of water upwind side of the pond along the shore first 15ft the water is calm and useful. I use a fishing pole is enough with throttle you can bring it in before the fuel gives out.
