RE: AQUACRAFT'S NEW MISS VEGAS U-18

Whats the difference between the Grim Racer 2mm anodized turn fin($21.99( and the Grim Racer15/18th($17.99) turn fin?

Also what other upgrades are worthwhile? Recommended props?

The Grim Racer 2mm turn fin is the one that comes with the UL1 FE Hydroplane. The 15/18 is the upgrade turn fin for the Deuce. The Grim Racer 36X55 metal prop works well on the Deuce. The engine runs well on Grim Racer 50% nitro fuel.

Although the tiger drive starting system works, most of those who race the Deuce have gone to an electric starter and starting belt in the boat.

OK great, appreciate that info. Could you give me a link to the electric starter and starting belt for the boat? Never heard of this. Details and links to the parts please? Appreciate it! Also, I upgraded to Hitec HV 7954 servos, what about the motor itself? Is there a good direct bolt in upgrade? Or is the stock motor sufficient? Ive had this boat almost a year now and have yet to run it. But I want to do the obvious and easy upgrades while its apart. I also got rid of the stock 2.4gig radio and now use a Spektrum DX3R Pro and the MR3000 marine 3 channel reciever. Ill never race this boat, but I do want to maximise the potential for good BALANCED performance thats overall better than what it was stock.

While I can appreciate the wanting to upgrade, I would recommend you stick with the stock engine for the time being. Since I don't know what you're background is in nitro engines, I'm assuming you are a beginner due to your latest post. The stock engine will be fairly fast and, since the owners manual is somewhat written for beginners, would be the best to learn with. You are looking at a mid to upper 30 MPH boat right now and, while that may not seem fast, it's more than fast enough to get you into situations that will challenge you. Give it a season and then consider moving up to a hotter .18 or maybe a .21 over the winter

RE: AQUACRAFT'S NEW MISS VEGAS U-18

Ive dealt with alot of nitro mills for ground rollers and race on a weekly basis in a number of 8th scale classes at a couple of local tracks. Boats though are new to me. And Im not familiar with the popular nitro engines available for the MVD.

The stock motor Im sure will be fine to start then, just curious what a good bolt in upgrade motor would be.

OK so Grimracer 15/18 turning fin. GR 36x55 prop, epoxy/reinforcement bodymods, servos and tx/rx upgraded.

WHat about this Octura Flex hex coupler? Part Number needed and an online shop I can grab it?

Appreciate making this easy for me guys.

You will need to match your engine shaft thread and flex cable size to order the right coupler for your application.

As far as engines, an OS CV-RMX is one option for an upgrade. There are others out there that will also work

oh and if you dont know this yet the stock drive shaft on the mvd is a joke for a good upgrade talk to toyotatruckin he makes a drop in shaft for the mvd that is a lot stronger then the stock one

    here is his web page

and i dont know how new you are or if any one has told you but if you dont know when you start using metal props you have to sharpen and balance them if you dont know will tare your drive line up or even destroy you motor

I would recommend getting the black ul1 turn fin, its the same thing as the blue one other then thicker material, the blue one flex's really bad, you dont want your turn fin to flex really at all

OK great, so Ill grab that, do I still need the Octura flex shaft hex or whatever it is?

Also I noticed on your link there is an "X-1" Blade for $23 polished. Will that add anything to performance as well? Going to be ordering all these parts tommarow so I want to make sure I dont forget anything.

And yes I am aware that you have to sharpen and balance metal props, got the balancer already.

OK, gotcha, so Ill grab that one instead. Also I guess the Octura Y535 prop is a bit faster than the 36x55 GR prop?

You can order an Octura Flex Hex Coupler for 150 cable and an Octura Y-535 from Gary Preusse at G&M Models. He only takes phone orders (630) 279-2451. Double check to make sure the flex cable slips easily into the coupler without and binding. You can adjust the shaft tube to make sure of the alignment between the coupler and the flex shaft.

OK, so far I got the grim racer 2mm turn fin, the custom made X-1 fin and customflex shaft from the link above. Now I just need the Octura flex hex bolt( .150 I believe is the needed size, but not sure if I need a threaded or non threaded for the stock engine, plus I have an OS CV-RMX on the way and I think that one needs to be threaded?)and an Octura Y535 prop and a prop balancer. Is there anything I didnt cover for hopping this boat up partswise?

Yes the Deuce is the newest of the vegas boats (gen3) first gen and second gen were the same hull and electronics, difference was some hardware changes, the deuce is still the same hull design BUT the sponson bottoms were modified, same hardware different electronics and different engine/pipe combo glass work seemed a little better on the deuce, at least the ones ive seen.. First gen also had a .130 flexshaft 2nd and 3rd both have the .150 cable

With my mods/upgrades what can I expect for top speed using the stock motor and 40% boat fuel? What about with the OS CV-RMX?

Also looking at either getting a Macs 2.5cc or 3.5cc pipe. Thoughts?

Also, can someone show me a pic of the "belt starter" conversion? What are the advantages of it over the stock roto start setup? The parts to go belt drive look cheap enough so I might do that.

Also, the OS .18 CV-RMX I ordered is actually out of stock, so I may just go with the OS .18TZ. Which I believe someone here makes a custom cooling head for it? SInce Im buying another tz for a nitor on-road car, if I get a second and buy 2 at once i can get em both at a significant discount so I may go that route. Thoughts?

Sent you an email on the TZ. As for belt starting, you already have the flywheel needed, you just need a starting belt, starter and a 12v source for the starter aquacraft sells starting belts and tower sells starters (so do most hobby shops)
This is the starter I use, there are cheaper ones that will do the same job
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFT87&P=7
belt goes in the groove of the flywheel and starter, pull it tight and hit the button on the starter to spin the engine over it starts and pull your starter away and move your belt where you need it(so its not rubbing on the moving parts) make sure your starter is spinning the motor the right way and I like to turn the motor back so its not fighting compression right off the bat, once you do it a few times youll be a pro at it, its not hard

RE: AQUACRAFT'S NEW MISS VEGAS U-18

Got my Vegas in the Mail yesterday!

I've got plenty of nitro plane and helicopter experience, but this is my first nitro boat. I have a rescue boat on standby and i got a couple of questions...

1 - For the rescue boat, i would rather not have to deal with a pvc pipe construction. Can i just put a tennis ball on some fishing line and tow that behind the rescue boat, to rescue the Vegas. kind fo like the fishing rod with a tennis ball, but a boat i can control a little bit better than a fishing rod. Would i need to put some fishing hooks on the tennis ball or some other way to make sure i got a good grip on the Vegas?

2 - The original Vegas thread, 150+ pages, had some recommended settings, upgrades in the first post. Is there a consolidated list like that for the duece? Or is the manual pretty accurate with the initial settings?

    Thanks!
