Default K&B 7.5 Outboard Question

I just pulled the head off of the engine to replace a broken bolt and I noticed that the prevoius owner was not running a head shim. Is this OK ?? The engine seems to run fine. Thanks

The head shim as installed from the mfg. often set the head clearence much higher than needed. If the engine is running fine, then there's no reason to stick a shim in the head. A good setting for head clearence on the 7.5 is between .012 and .015.
