I can tell you where I would start, by pulling the bottom off between the bow blockes and the boat's transom. If there isn't any internal water damage, I'd lighten up the boat and and replace the bottom with new ply after installing new engine mounts, sanding down the sponson insides and installing glue blocks. Looks like a Dumas to me, with some modding during the build. You didn't show a skid fin in your pictures so can i assume you didn't get one? You need a strut and brackets, stuffing tube, flex cable with stub shaft, tuned pipe with coupler, and I would replace the rudder as well

I'm helping someone do this to another boat and it's not a hard rework. You will need 1/16 aircraft ply for the skin, a block of 3/16 or 1/4 aircraft ply for a strut doubler and some spruce stick stock to make glue blocks from. Size will be determined by any damage to the framing when taking the boat bottom off. I would go to www.rossisales.com and get new hardware from Speedmaster. They can help you pick out the right parts, just be sure to get the left side rudder assembly as it's normally better to pull the rudder to turn than to push it

Speedmaster is good quality stuff, have it on one of my boats. One other thing, get the short rudder bracket. The further back the rudder is mounted, the wider the turning radius

Be sure not to round anything on the sponson bottoms while sanding off paint or it will adversly affect the boat's ride. Does this mean you have the hardware all ordered already?

Just so you know. Your miller american shown here, has the Newton plan sponsons. Heck the full hull might be a Newton plan hull, not the dumas kit. This make that hull a LOT more desirable, so keep that in mind! Mike

RE: 1/8 Scale Dumas Miller American Hydroplane
I have what i believe is a Dumas Miller boat but i cant be certain... I pick it up off a guy in his late 60's who claims he has had it setting on his shelf sense it was new. Is their anyway someone could tell me a little about it if i post pics up? I am also thinking about selling it off to fund another project, but am not sure what the value of the boat it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Could you post some pictures of the inside of the boat? The sponsons don't look like what Dumas used on the scale boats, so it's possible it could me a Newton or a hybrid
