RE: .18 Mono
All the bearings I make are offset with larger holes than the above,(old picture). Slots vs holes its what ever you prefer to do, I have never had issues going either way and believe there is no "best" way to do them the only real performance gain that would never be seen would be to reduce the bearing surface ride area a ton-that would also lead to premature bearing failure.
A diagonal cut slot would end up pushing the grease up and away from the stub toward the engine (or out the back end) basically running itself dry faster than a hole or slot cut straight (side to side) that would hold the grease in the bearing longer, think drill bit but if greased and fit properly I still dont see a bearing failure happening as I dont think it would clear out before the tank ran dry.

RE: .18 Mono
well this is all good info once again.
im pretty sure somewhere in the back of my mind i knew that i was going to have to prime it all first. its just not what i wanted to hear
i like the idea of running a 7/32 tube, im not sure why but i do.
for this hull ill probably do a 1/4inch tube.

RE: .18 Mono
poor pro .15s front bearings gave out on me today all at once in the stampede, slinging fuel out from around the flywheel. lol
looks like this hull will get a chance to hang out for a while after it comes to me

Some say to replace those bearings yearly, 2 times in down south weather ,where you use more often .the rear ones go first most of the time. turns that tuning pipe & header nasty color LOL

its never had a set, 3 years old. starting running a little sloppy a few weeks ago. then today i brought it back around to me and looked at the crank since the inside of my body was covered with nitro, and i noticed the front bearing was done. the seal was completely eaten away.
pressure tested it and it leaks like a stuck pig ha ha.

RE: .18 Mono
so ive noticed... but it doesnt look or seem that the hull is going anywhere any time soon.
who knows buy the time my pay pal account is ready to i may enough money to get the motor and the hull all in one shot lol.
so you say the hulls do have rails in them allready? and is that a home made motor mount youve got on yours? ive made a few out of plate aluminum, or angle aluminum with rubber isolators.
wasnt a fan of the angle with isolaters. but my buddies loved em

RE: .18 Mono
thought so.
ive got some 1 inch birch plywood leftover in the garage and some flat aluminum stock still. should be able to whip up a motor mount in no time

RE: .18 Mono
what a coincidence. i happen to be sitting right next to one still on my balancer as we speek. (started and got lazy!) lol
can any one give me an idea of how nitro resistant base coat, clear coat paint systems. im pretty sure its pretty fuel resistant. maybe up to like 45% but i understand with prolonged exposer it wont stand up very well

RE: .18 Mono
OK radio box finished and drop in ready, I like stand alone boxes when I can-meaning unhook control rods and pull it if I want
The nest before I got it all in
And the sardine's all stuffed in lol
1 standard size servo, 1 mini servo, RX, switch, regulator, and 2s 800mah lipo
Oh before I get asked I make the switches from castle bullet connectors and wet noodle wire soldered on to a piece of circuit board that the correct connectors then get soldered to drill two holes in radio box to fit the switch and epoxy it in no possible way for it to ever leak and it cant really ever fail only downfall to it is the the post OR the wire will remain hot which reminds me I need to add a piece of shrink wrap to the post lol

RE: .18 Mono
Heads up RC is where I got mine, battery to. I took up electric flying for the last year before jumping back into boating and learned all kinds of interesting stuff that converts over to boat use. It was suggested to me to try A123 cells instead of lipo's so I could loose the regulator (a123's are 3.3vper cell) but the regulator allows me to dump just about any voltage pack in the box and still come out a flat 6v(or 5v with the change of a jumper) so if I couldnt fit the 800mah 2s in it the store has some nice little thumb size 3s 360's that will fit anyplace here is the heads up link hes good with shipping cheap on price just deals in plane goodies though

RE: .18 Mono
awsome. ive got like 10 or 15 quarter sized lipos (literally the size of a us quarter)
all of them ar 800-900 mah even got one or two 650s.
but im thinking of using the 900 mah and making a series plug for them so i dont have to use a balance plug on them scince they are all single cells.
could even do 2s-2p in the 900 which would make them last quite a while.
cant wait to get the motor and hull lol.
what did you make your radio box out of??? birch ply?
