Building a boat need help
I bought this boat for 200 dollars a couple years ago when I really "got into" RC Boats. I still consider myself a beginner. When I got the boat home and started it on the bench, it blew the engine on the second rev. Since then I have taken the boat apart and done some cosmetic work and also replaced the engine and am in the process of trying to get it ready for the water now. I purchased an OS46 engine. ***Need help determining the best fuel mixture for this engine to get the most perfomance from it. I don't race in competitions, but do like to make my boats run the best and fastest they can. If anyone has any advice or experience using a remote needle in an OS engine please share. Any tips would be helpful.

River City Racing Club is based in Evansville. Even if you don't want to race, I'm sure if you hook up with those guys they will give you any help you need. They run on the pond behind Cracker Barrel. I run third channel needles on all my boats. I wouldn't be without one.

Don't over rev the engine on the bench,
Don't set your HSN so that you have a quick crisp response on the bench, this means it is lean and will be way too lean in the water and it will stall.
I don't see a turn fin on the right sponson.
I noticed that you have painted the bottom of the boat, make sure that every angles on the sponsons and hull are not round, but nice and crisp corners.
ensure rudder is sharp,
turn fin is sharp, and
prop is sharpened and balanced.

She is A LOOKER, nice job. Your engine exhaust looks to be the problem. The right header/engine is key. The K&B front exhaust engine looks to be a better match Yes Front ,not my ideal way of calling them. Your OS is a rear exhaust Look at the engine from a air plane view . Sorry not my ideal, darn plane guys

I'm sure the failure of the first engine was user error. From what i've been told the OPS45 didn't like to run lean, lesson learned. I still have alot of work to do on this boat. I had some worries about the header myself. If the header i ordered doesn't fit can i cut andweld to make fit.

I love the OS max46, would not buy anything else! Main needle 1.5 -2 turns out on 20-30 %. They make a engine mount that twists the engine angle to help get the header out of the way of the body. I use a mix of after run and ZMax oil treatment to prelube the engine. I soak them in ZMAX to let the Zmax soak in over the week when engine is new and when a run is finished I use the mix as a hot lube in the cylinder to help cool it down. It soaks into the hot metal better. Be sure to use a .67 size motor exhaust or they say it will burn out. As you can see how large the carb is , this motor pumps alot of air. Joe
ps, great looking boat!

Max RPM is greatly controlled by Header and Pipe length, adding any length to the header will greatly reduce the engines ability to hit Peak RPM\Performance Levels.

The o.s. 46 vx-m is a good running engine. I run one in my Speedmaster deep-vee. It's running pretty good with a 7.5cc Mac muffled pipe at 10.5" with 25% nitro. I'm sure it's not the best setup, but it will do 51 mph with a stock x450/3 prop and I'm happy with that.

Brazing Rod!?! now that scares me [X(]
There should be at least a couple of other guys there...I still am saying I'll be there around 10AM...which probably means noon
I don't know anyone that has that O.S. .46, but the hull is a Phil Thomas SS45...very popular in the sport 40 class. I have a used on as well, but still haven't run it.
My name is Tim BTW

RE: Building a boat need help
I took the needle housing out of the engine first. I removed the needle and heated up the housingand filled it with brass. What i mean by housing might not be the correct terminology. Please correct me if i'm wrong. I'm posting more pics of the boat a little closer to it first trip cross the lake. A little body mod was needed to make the 180 header fit but i think it turned out ok. The turn fin is on. How sharp does it need to be? I'm Jeff btw.

Looks good Jeff! I figured you would have had to make a bigger hole for that header...very clean.
A lot of guys like to get the rudders sharp as a knife...not sure if they really need to be that sharp...it will dull up after a few laps anyway.

I can't get my os46 to turn over with the glow plug in. It spins fine with the glow plug out. I have a hobbico torque master90 witha strong charge on the battery. Any tips would be great.

RE: Building a boat need help
Loosen the plug up a bit. I have the same problem with my ops.67 Also roll the flywheel bck so the piston isnt at the top and then hit the starter to it. Once you get it warm it should and broke in it should get easier to turn over.

Yep always loosen the glow plug 1\2 a turn on a Green or Cold engine to release a little compression, also take a little 180 grit sand paper to the inside of the V Groove on the flywheel to give the belt a better bite.
