RE: HOTS???
I sold a Midwest Hots kit last year. It had been sitting in abasement somewhere before I owned it and the balsa & plans were moldy but I still got a good price for it.

RE: HOTS???
FordBronco.. that is one fine example of a SuperHots. I got one back in '89.. still have it.. still fly it. It's went through a few facelifts.. I'd like to give it one in that scheme though.. thats nuts.. very very nice.. I just might steel that pic for mine.
I would say get plans or a short kit as someone recomended.. these are timeless planes.. for sure.

RE: HOTS???
Does anyone know if Steve is selling the kits that are listed on his site? I have sent an e-mail, but no response. Anyways here are a couple of pics of my Super Hots. I bought it in 2005 from a very good friend of mine. He had a few planes for sale and he insisted that I buy the Super Hots. I am glad he did, it is a very sweet flyer. It came with a OS 61 SF ringed , oh man this motor rocks!!

RE: HOTS???
I am currently building one now (Super Hots that is). I know that this is "old school" construction in some ways-especially in the sizes of wood called for in building the wing. I am anxious to see how it turns out. The wing (all I have done so far) turned out beautiful though it seems to be about 5oz. heavier in comparison to others of the same area I have built due to 1/8" ribs and 3/32" sheeting. I could have used thinner stuff but I am keeping true to Santich's plans. I am, however, going to use 3/8" balsa sheet for the lower fuse sides than the called for 1/8" ply. The one time I flew a Super Hots was awesome!!!!

Charlie,
You ned to contact Steve at [email protected] and he will let you know how to order one. I don't belive there is a retail outlet for purchasing his planes or plans at this time.

RE: HOTS???
Charlie,
Steve did respond to my e-mail a couple of days after I made my post. There isn't any other way to get one of his kits, unless you find someone who has one and will part with it. I guess this is one of those times that patiance is a vertue. lol..

RE: HOTS???
Its really nice to see some Hots airplanes on here. I had a midwest Hots II in the 90's that I flew in Cape town South Africa. The thing was super fast (had a Super tiger 46 in it) and did lovely knife edges and rolls. Lost a good portion of it in a midair with a much larger airplane, it lost a third of the wing, sheared a good portion of the hoz stab and went into a flat spin. I managed to recover and land it, but I did not feel like rebuilding it so gave it away to a friend.
Fast forward to this year and I have some 40" Yak 54 wings that I am going to mate to a scratch built Hots fuse/tail. I am probably going to stretch it to give a longer tail moment and a more patternship design and possibly a see-through cockpit instead of a black decal. I will be designing it around an Axi 2808/24 with 3 cell Lipo. Will get started on the plans once I finish final exams next week. Will post pics on here once I have something substantial.

RE: HOTS???
Started drawing up the fuse for the Hots-B (brushless) today. Just got the outline done, now I need to draw up all the bulkheads and figure out how much of the sides and panels to cutout for shedding some weight. I dont want to shave off too much weight as the original Hots was pretty heavy and had good inertia/wind penetration. I am not using this for 3D but want a good amount of power to weight ratio. This should be a nice, cheap project.
Here are 2 pictures of progress (can you tell I am excited), 1 of the Yak wing which will be mated to the fuse in 2 pieces:

RE: HOTS???
For you guys that have a Super Hots or Hots II, can you tell me if there is any right thrust or down thrust built into the firewall?
Its been a while and can't remember if mine had any offset.
Thanks!

RE: HOTS???
Dave, Unfortunatly I don't have the plans that my Super Hots was built from. But I do have the instructions. I have looked and it doesn't refer to any offset on the firewall at all. It only refers to using a square to make sure that the firewall is 90* to the fuse. I did find in step 161 of the manual that the thrust angle is 0*-0*. It does seem a bit wierd to me that there is no offset , but it appears that is the way it is supposed to be.

Until now it has difficult to even find full size plans for the "Super Hots" 60 size airplane.
However there is now a company out of Canada that offers plans for most of the old Midwest
Hots airplanes. The company is (AirAgeStore.com). If you look under there plans section on
there web site you can find them. I purchased mine for $13.00 and a couple of days later the
price has jumped up to around $20.00. Guess they figured there was money to be made on the
Super Hots plans.
Also I am considering having Laser Works cut the parts.
Happy trails......................

RE: HOTS???
Update on Super Hots - 60 size airplane "short kits are now available"
I have sent my plans to Lazer Works, and as of now Lazer Works can cut a short kit for the Super Hots.
The short kit I received was fairly complete with only some minor sheeting and spruce sticks left to purchase
along with the hardware of course. Those of you that are interested, I believe you will find Lazer Works price
very affordable for a great flying airplane.
