Guys, I keep thinking of a kit that was available 15+ years ago, but I'll be darned if I can remember it's name or even who made it. It was on my "to do" list back then, and now that I'm active again I'd like to try and track one down. Hoping somebody can help me out because it's bugging me. It's a larger sport plane, but what set's it apart from most is it's slightly swept leading edge and high wing platform? Probably 750 sq in or more and built up?

TIA for any ideas on what it was or where to find one!

There aren't many I can think of.  The old Comet Clipper comes to mind.

There were some "jetlike" models with high wings and twin tails

This was a production kit, though the manf. was not one of the bigger ones (like Sig, Goldberg, etc.)? I'm thinking it had a cabin area with mock w/s - not like the "stik" series high wing planes. Think early/mid 80's era, .60-.75 size.

OK, this is much closer (newer design!), but Strikemaster is quite a bit smaller than the one I'm after. Good try though! Thanks!

Maybe if ahicks were to see/read the name, it'd ring some bells. Once the manufacurer was nailed down, then some googling might find what he needs.

This is my dad at the field circa 1974 I think. Webra blackhead up front for power. Upgraded in the 80's to an HP gold cup.But I cannot remember the name of the aircraft.What pops into my head is something like Acrotrainer or something along those lines.BUT I could be way off on that.Dad loved that plane and flew it for years.

Man, this is haunting me. I dug through some stuff in a closet I never use and found 89 and 91 Tower hobbies catalogs. So that's exactly what I did. Not seeing the plane I went through again looking at the manfs., then came here to look at the planes listed for each and no good there. Didn't think to try Googling them.....

The "Acrotrainer" seems awfully close to the plane I'm thinking of. Could easily be an early version of it?

Does anyone know if there are any plans or short kits available for the Acro trainer series? I would love to build and fly one of those again.It flew as if on rails.Well it looked like it anyway.I did fly the sterling tri-pacer thats in the background.

I always wanted to fly an Acro Trainer. I had it picked out for my first plane. I let the Hobby Dealer talk me out of one. I never knew what happened to RC Kits.

If I remember correctly Bob Campbell was the designer/owner of R/C Kits which were sold by Mutchler's Hobbies out of Ohio and Hobby Barn
out of Arizona. I think Bob Campbell was also owner of Mutchler's. So when Mutchler's Hobbies closed it doors in the 80's so went R/C Kits. A
few months before Mutchler's closed, I ordered an F7F and had planed on ordering an Acro Trainer 60 and a Acro Master, but I placed an order
with Bridi first. Just as I had the money together to order the kits and some other stuff, they closed a few weeks earlier. So I've been looking
for these two kits off and on since Ebay came to live. These are hard kits to find and I've only seen 1-F7F, 1-Acro Master (which was in real bad
condition and no plans), 2-Super Hunters, 1-F-102, 2-T-38, and 1-Maxi-Acro (which I bid high enough because I didn't think anyone else was
would higher, Wrong!!) to show up on Ebay or RCU plus the Acro Trainer that Ahicks posted. I know there's a guy out there somewhere that has
a stockpile R/C Kits, he's just not ready to let go of them yet.

Hey Steve, thanks for trying! I actually had one of those a long time ago with a 25 FSR on it. Looked like it was going 100mph just sitting there, but mine didn't fly worth a darn! That's about all I remember about it though....

Still thinking about this project. I'm probably going to have a go at kit bashing one of these I think. I'm sure there are no Acro Trainer plans in existance, nothing I've been able to find anyway. So the next question will be what kit to base it on I guess. It's going to be gas powered, 2 or 3 piece built up wing (no strut design prefered) for easy transport, 1200 sq in or so, no more than about 80" ws, hoping to keep it in the 14-15lb range.

Al,

Being that the Acro had a taper leading edge wing you may have to go with one
of those big Giles or an Extra wing and a Nosen trainer fuse. Maybe you can do it
with Bridi Big Bee also. You could also try a plane over in the Classic Pattern Forum,
post 397, but you would have to blow it up a bit.

i tried to find it i found a site with free planes it lists a acro trainer but i dont know if thats it.
i live about a hour's drive from where the guy lives that made the kit i will contact some of the club members and see if they can help in finding the plans or a kit if you want./
