Years ago when it was in production I bought and built the Ace 4-60. It was one of my favorite airplanes from a pure flying standpoint. It was a real put-put with and older OS four banger engine. It trained several folks to fly and everyone loved it. Yes gave it away to last fellow who was learning to fly. So I needed another. Finally this last month I committed to building another. The wing plan is full size but the fuselage and tail groupe are I/2 size so made patterns twice size. Here it is in the bone stage about ready to cover. That is the older OS 4-60 engine installed. Do not look at the messy work table, will clean up before covering.

Looks very good. It is a great plane for a sport / relaxing flyer.

Yes I saw that, I took half out of mine. The rudder is very effective on these. It is a really a relaxing flier.

These are among the best flying sport planes, ever !

My first was a 4-40. I then had two 4-60s. I sold the last, but, a couple years ago, decided that I needed another.

I found a kit and built it. The model has become my every day flyer.

Along the way, I purchased a 4-40 kit, which is waiting to be built.

You've done a nice job on your build. Please post pics when you get her covered.

Tom, Thanks for posting the picture of you airplane, looks good. As I was building mine I got to thinking about blending in the cockpit to a more streamlined shape, but after a little thought decided that wouild take away the charactor and charm of the design, so it will be per plans. So many rc flyers ( typical) randomally fly fly as fast as they can, thats ok if it is your thing, but the 4-60 airplanes charm is it's put-put flying style with a four banger engine. Yes I will post picture of the finished airplane. Logair

I agree. This model needs to be flown slow. Over powering it changes it's flying characteristics, and it loses it's charm.

I had one of these and really loved it. One day I did a ground loop and broke the top of the fuselage behind the "cockpit". While I was repairing it, I took the entire turtle deck off and simply laid a sheet of balsa over the fuselage from "cockpit" to tail. It looked very much like a stick at that point, so I finished it off, sanded the edges round, recovered it and left it that way. If anything, it helped its flying characteristics, which were already very good. Unfornunately, one day about sixty days ago, I got dizzy while flying, fell down and it flew away. And, no, I don't drink. []

Jollypopper, Thanks for your input on the Ace 4-60. Sorry you lost your airplane, especially from becoming dizzy. Pray your Dr. can help with the problem. Logair

I used to get dizzy, too. My doc changed my blood pressure medicine and the problem went away.

Jolly, if you take meds for HBP, you may want to ask your doctor about it.

I just pulled up your 4-60 framed up and read that you have 5/8 dihederal under each wing, my question would be why did you decide on the 5/8.

This was one of my first planes in 1989 I loved the plane. I am scratch building and I am at the point in ajoining the wing. I do not have any thing that tells me the original dehederal

The 5/8 dihedral, well I guess it looked just right to me so that was what I decided on. I am in process of covering the wing at this point. See if I can post a picture of fuselage. Logair

jdouce, The construction manual calls for 1-1/2" under each wing panel for a total of 3". Logair

I know it has been awhile since I posted about my Ace 4-60, so just to keep up to date I flew my Ace 4-60 two flights today. After a little down trim on trany it flew just like an Ace 4-60 is expected to fly. It is a little more acro without so much dihedral. (don't laugh). Fun plane to fly with the OS 70 putt-putt. Logair
