More pictures of my progress. Next step is to do the engine install and modify the cowl. I am going to attempt to keep a wrap around pitts style muffler within the cowl so only the bottom is opened for the engine and exhaust. First I need the measurements from the exhaust port to the cowl side and then the thickness of the exhaust when it is installed on the port. If necessary, I might just have j-tec custom one with a narrower pipe to keep it inside. All the while, I will ensure that the air exit is 3 times larger than the intake.

@pd1: You do excellent, excellent work. Kudos to you!

The 1/4" spar-add, do you think this should be a Pulse 60 w/Saito 100 GK automatic add prior to build (what building there is on an arf, I mean)?
Any other suggestions/ tips would be greatly appreciated.
Did you go with the CA hinges thruout, as I have always replaced my CA's w/ Robart 1/8" pin hinges on this sized plane???

Thanks, and again, nice job.

Thanks Don, I don't know if the spar is needed when the stab is sheeted and glued on the plane. My Buddy has an OS 95 in his, it's a screamer, he does things with it that I would not attempt and he hasn't been able to break one in the air since the mod.

I don't care for CA hinges, just personal preference.,personally I like the large Du Bro pinned hinge.

So over Christmas I made a decision to part ways with my pulse 60. I acquired a mini pulse from a buddy who did not want to fly it. The best part of this is I assembled it for him. I know whats in the plane and how it is put together. I also did the maiden on it so I know it flys well. This is all part of my overall plan of consolidating my extensive battery collection. The 60 flew on 8 cells and after a bit of re arranging in the hanger it was the only 4 cell/ 8 cell aircraft. I am moving to all 6 cell and 3 cell aircraft. Seeing as I have 6 other aircraft flying on 3 cell 2200 batteries it seemed a perfect fit while keeping a pulse in the hanger.

For anyone wondering about my progress, I have had 2 issues. First, has been parts. I am at the point of doing the cowl mods to fit it around the engine, I ordered and received a J-tec wrap around Pitts style muffler which required slight modification to the mount. Also have on order, but not received is a Tru Turn spinner for the 15x7 MAS prop I am going to use. And finally, I caught bronchitis so bad I have been out of commission for over a month. Hope to get back to working soon. Write up and pics to come.

keep watching the Pulse 125 Pilot Size thread.

Gentlemen,

I received a H9 Pulse XT 40 for Christmas from a fellow flying member. I have various options to power it. I am not going electric as I do not see an advantage of it as this time. My current engine inventory for this plane consist of a OS FS-52, OS FS-70, and a ASP 65 4 stroke. In addition, I have a Saito FA-82 that can go into it. The OS FS-52 and Saito FA-82 fit in the engine mount without much modifications. The ASP 65 and OS FS-70 seam to wide for the mount and the overall length seams a little long. I need a little help from those with the XT 40 powered by nitro.

H9 Pulse XT 40 with a Eflite power 46, Castle Creations Phoenix 80 ESC, and a 5S1P 3750mah battery.

2 H9 Pulse XT 60s powered by a OS 90 FX. Sadly the airplane gods were unhappy with this combination caused the untimely demise of both airplanes.

James:

it depends on how you want to fly it. If you want it aerobatic, go with the saito 82. I have the OS FS95-V in my pulse 60 and it flies fantastic. If you're not concerned about aerobatics, you can put one of the smaller engines in. You shouldn't have balance issues with the 82 either. Good luck.

I'm purchasing a Pulse 25e and would like to get some input on the setup, i.e., what is the best size mini servo to put in? I am going to go with an Eflite power 32 motor and 60A ESC.
Anyone have experience with servos for this Pulse and what are you suggesting I purchase. Thanks in advance for your input.

I have mn48's in my 25e. I have a power 25 40 amp ESC and run 3200 and 3300 for batteries. I really like the setup good power setup. I would also suggest drilling a 3rd hole in the gear. It really helps with the gear.

Thanks for your input but I read about the mn48's, but they were rated only "average" by some users and am kind of afraid to use them as I plan on using a 32 motor. I'm use to Futaba and Hitec on the servo issue, any thoughts?

I like to use http://www.servodatabase.com it has charts of all kinds of servos. It's a great resource and has compare feature.

Great idea amc72! I've bookmarked this site as it is a very good resource for servos. It gives all the specs and information necessary to make a good decision. Thanks again for the useful info!
