Super Sportster 60 engine choice
Hello,
I'll start building a kit of the Great Planes Super Sportster 60.
I have several engines to use in this plane but I have not decided yet.
The engines are: OS .61FX, OS FS.70 Surpass, OS FS.90, Super Tigre .61ABC (Made in Italy) and Rossi .45ABC "unused".
I would like to know your opinions in order to reach a decision.
Best Regards,
Norberto

I have a .91 Surpass in my Sportster. They make a great combination.
Your .45 is prbably too small, and definately too light. The Sportsters build tail heavy, so you want spme weight up front. It would be great in the 40 size.
The .70 Surpass is a wonderful power plant...........for the 40 sized Sportster. Again, I thik it's too small for the 60 sized version. I had a 70 Surpass in my 40 Sportster. It was the best flying of all my Sportsters.
If your .61s are dependable, they'll be fine. Be prepared to add nose weight.
The FS 90 would be my choice. Don't follow the instructions where they tell you to move the firewall rearward. Build it as is, and lengthen the nose. You may get by without nose weight, if you do.

I have an older 70 II Surpass in a Contender 60 and it is a beautiful match. My Super Sportster is the giant variety with a 34cc Fuji, but I would bet the 60 size with a 70 Surpass would be a sweet flier. I like flying my Super Sportster at a crawl (1/3 throttle) and it does very well. It's not a fast airframe anyway, and 3-D is out of the question.
On the other hand . . . I have had great fun with a Super Tigre .51 in .40 size airframes. The ST.61 would get you more speed.
Either would be a good choice!
