Bill Evans Simitar "Shooter"
I just finished and flew my Shooter today. I am absolutely impressed. The first flight was a little nuts. There wasn't a lot of info available for initial set up. Once I dialed it in it flies better than I hoped. The reason I'm posting this is for those who may be building one looking for pointers. Also I'd like to encourage anyone whose been interested and shied away BUILD ONE!

I like your plane. Looks great. Some years ago I built the 40 size and installed a operational rudder but it had virtually no directional effect on the plane what so ever.
Why not go even larger and use a 30cc gas engine???

The Shooter is a .40 size. I'm running a Tower .46. There is a version to take a 30cc also. The build article I found mentioned a rudder and other mods. He suggested flying it stock first. I enjoy it enough so far I think I'll leave it as is.

I posted an earlier thread to this.
But you might be able to find plans for one through the AMA plan service or even one of the magazine's plans shop.
I am posting pictures of the one I built back in '97. Then you could get wings form 'wing mfg'. I scratched the one you see here. Was not hard just a lot of balsa. and sanding. The plane flew great but NO rudder control.
It could have been my particular wing design but it had a tendency for sudden wing stalls. Just when you wanted to flair it for a gentle touch and go it would drop to the pavement with an ugly bounce. If you were quick enough to catch it at the right moment you could grease it in but it always did no work out like that.
I got tired of flying with just ailerons..
This one is a '40 size and I ran a S.T. 51 on it.
it.

B.Day,
Thank you for replying. Building a Simitar has been on my bucket list since I saw his construction articles in R.C.M. It's been quite a while, but the itch still needs scratching. I may finally do it this winter's building season. I did find a company in Arkansas called Eureka Models, or something like that that sells Simitar short kits, cores and plans. I'll study that for a while as well.
Again, Thanks!
