Anyone got one of these yet, looks good, just wondered how well they fly.

Haven't seen one, but I sure hope Seagull dealers on this side of the pond pick them up-if they fly half as good as they look, they will be keepers.

Hi,

I gather its quite a new one ........ ive had a few segull models before and havent been too keen, but this one looks like its begging for an oversided engine .................. looks similar to the Great Planes Shoe String Pylon Racer........ i may have to look into this one......

Haven't flown this model, but have flown the full size version. A friend of mine had one and let me fly it a few times. It would climb about 4000 fpm and top out about 270 mph. Was a real rush compared to my Cub.

Oh this is just swell!. I tell the wife I hope they make one of these in about a year, don't fret over me buying another ARF right now and then this happens. OK, lets not panic....... There's a way to get one of these without having to sleep on the couch for the next three months. I hate "crisis management " but what's the cost of one in US currency? MormonMike.[]

MormonMike, the US equivalent of the UK price is approx $185, tho I expect you'll be paying nearer $129 or less when it shows in the stores over there.[8D]
I've got one on order ( but don't tell the wife) so I'll let you all know what its like once it arrives

Skycom, What an RC buddy! Thank you! I will stay posted to this site and check during the work week. My RC specialty are the Van/RV's. Finally, something to get excited about. MM

One of the few homebuilts that looks nicer than an RV is a Harmon Rocket. I know it is based on the RV but the longer nose and taller gear really make it look sharp. I always wanted a 120 size RV8 arf but I will have to have the Rocket. Here is a picture of my friends RV-6.

Im amazed at how a thread like this goes from first place on the site one day and then you have to do a search for it the next day to find the darn thing. Maybe we should talk about "Black Horse ARF's" or " Patty Wagstaff ARF's ". That stuff seems to stay on the first page for months. [:@] MM

I have reviewed two of the Seagull models so far, and I must say I'm very impressed with all they give you for so little price.

Excellent Mike !! I was hoping for a positive feed-back ! My worry was that the little pilot head under the canopy makes the plane look like a VMAR type quality. The British fellow on this thread figures the cost for this ARF might come down quite a bit once it arrives over here. The "pro-film" covering on it makes me a little un-easy, Hope its not that bogus sticky contact paper like on a Twinstar. Im doing my best to "twist" EAM's arm to consider making a Rocket from a modified RV-4 but I can't afford to get Cleve irritated at me. Just have to be patient..... for a while. Your remarks welcome Mike. Seeya, MM

Thank you!. The black-painted firewall and vinyl strapping along the bottom of the canopy suggest VMAR building techniques. Not a problem. Dos it say what it is covered with? [ Hopefully an ultra-cote ] No telling when that ARF will arrive here in the US. It will probably be distributed by Hangar 9, and that means their "greed-factor " will add another $75 US to the item. Certainly not VMAR quaility .. just recieved mine to-day. Profilm is Oracover (ie high quality stuff) - The ply is laser cut and its real balsawood (good quality stuff by the look of it). It looks well constructed.

Couple of niggles - the underwing servo mounts are a bit strange - rather than slots for the servo arms to "just" poke out of - there is a big hole 2" x 1/2" that looks unslightly. The pilot is way too small - other than that no other complaints.

Skycom,

Has anyone flown it yet? I'm looking for a fast plane to put in a 50. Will this hold up to a oversized engine? Will it be fast?

Haven't finished it yet, tho its close. Looking at fitting an AX46 but want to do it with a minimum of cowl cutting.
One thing, because of the streamlined shape of the cowl, its quite narrow top to bottom near the front i.e around the exhaust manifold. Just needs a little time and patients I guess[]

Skycom, I take it that a SuperTigre .61 with a " Pitts " type muffler probably wont fit ? A .51 seems rather tiny for that size of plane. But what else can you put in it. This is not suppose to be a slow flyer. I will certainly get one, whenever they arrive in the states. Till then, how about some photos please, especially the nose area. Thanks, MM.

probably could get a 60 size motor in but there might not be too much left of the cowl when you'd finished. Perhaps re-engineering the firewall, moving the eng mount back a little way, and repositioning the tank too?

A guy had one of these at the model field the other weekend. He had an OS 46AX for power. From what I saw it flew pretty well. The owner seamed very happy with it. The quality looked very good for the price.

Skycom, thanks for the photos. I see that the motor mount is in the 8 o'clock position. It appears there will be some good challenges ahead in that area to make it work. I'll figure it out when I buy the plane. Nobody here in the states knows anything about this ARF, there's no telling when we will see it here. Please keep us posted on your progress. Seeya, Mike

Mounting the engine is no problem at all - fitted an OS46AX to mine and I have to say it fits like a glove per the stock setup. It does mean a few holes in that rather nice cowl - but there are going to be some hole in it anyway so what the heck.
