Hog Bipe Engine
Need some help. Whats the smallest 4 stroke will it handle? 2 stroke may have to do. $$$$ is not right yet. Any ideas for a two stroke will help also. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I know what the book says. But having had 3 Hob Bipes I can tell you that you're going to need a 91 4-stroke. I use the OS 91 4-stroke and it's like the motor was made for that plane. A perfect combination. The Hog Bipe begs for a 4-stroke, but if you're gonna put a 2 stroke in it I would suggest an OS 61.
Hope this helps

One of my buddies has the Hog Bipe with Saito 91, great combination. If I wanted to use a two-stroke, I'd go for my favorite inexpensive powerhouse, the Magnum 91 XLS. I have two of 'em, they've treated me well. Weigh hardly more than a .60 size.

RE: Hog Bipe Engine
Hobby People has the Magnum .91 4-stroke going for $150 this month, a real bargain on a good engine.
I've flown 2 Hog-Bipes with Thunder Tiger .91 4S's, great combination.

I flew mine two years w/ an OS 70 Surpass 4-stroker. Never had a problem, even off grass, but there was not a really big reserve of power. Vertical penetration was definitly limited, but you could still do all the "scale" barn-stormer type stunts. If I had to do it again, I would however go with a 91 4-stroker.

RE: Hog Bipe Engine
I have flown three Hog Bipes .... owned two. I used OS70FS on the first two and just finished my newest Hog Bipe with an OS91FS.
My experience says that the OS70FS is a great engine for this airplane. It did everything I asked it to do. However the OS91FS really makes the airplane a real performer.

I have one with a ST 75 ringed. Love the SuperTiger engines! I've had Magnum and never had luck with them. I'd love to put a 90 FS on it, but it's tough to shell out $150. on an engine and it be a bad choice or a junk engine

Crash,
I just bought a Magnum 91 four-stroke. It runs great and I'll be putting it in my Great Planes AT-6.
I recently heard that Magnum has cleaned up it's quality act and their engines are much more reliable these days.
I'll let you know after I've flown this one a few dozen times.
Aloha,
Jim (SafetyWrench)

Well, just to muck up everything, I am going to put in a Saito 100 GK in mine. It is on order and I should have it by the end of the week. I really wanted the GK simply for the looks. I am planning on covering mine with pearl white on the bottom and metallic purple for the top. I picked up the 100 GK for $279.00...yes, somewhat expensive, but this is my first bipe and I am not sparing any costs.

RE: Hog Bipe Engine
I would recommend an OS 91 four stroke or the Saito 100. Both are more power than needed, but that extra power is nice for vertical maneuvers and you can always throttle back when you don't need it. The Astro Hog mono plane or the Hog Bipe both just "cry" for 4 stroker of some kind. Two strokes just seem out of place on these two birds.

I'll add another vote for a TT91 FS. Great combination with an engine that is an excellent value. The sound alone is enough to sell you on it..Fred123[&:]

I have the Super Tigre 75 on mine and it flys GREAT! Never had a dead stick with this engine?? I wish I could say the same for some of my other engines.

RE: Hog Bipe Engine
I currently have a hog bipe on the bench I am building. I own 2 possible engines that I could drop in. One is the Saito 100, and the other is a Saito 72GK. The 100 might be a tad much, and the 72 might be a tad weak for this particular Plane. How about a few opinions?
