Plane for O.S. 1.60
Had a Sig Cap with an OS 1.60 in it. Lost an aileron and ended up losing the plane. But I still have a perfectly good engine! I wouls just like som suggestions from you guys as to the best ARF to put this engine in. I'd like to go as cheap as possible, but I want good quality and will pay if i have to. The Dave Patrick models look inviting, but I'm wondering if any of you have any experience with the Extreme Aircraft Cap 232. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you want a "different" lazy day/Sunday flier, look at PacificAero Gee Bee Y.
This is the long fuselage Gee Bee and IS NOT A SPEEDSTER OR FAST FLYING PLANE. It is a lazy day/Sunday flier. The plane will do basic aerobatics and is a pure joy to fly with the OS 1.60 and an 18x6 W prop.

The 1.60FX would be great on just about any 1/4scale or around 72" wingspan aerobat. The specific airplane you choose would really be based on your preferences and your budget. Dave Patrick has positioned his ARFs near the high end of the market, and his prices reflect that. His Edge would be great match for the 1.60. His 78" Extra would also be a good match for the 1.60, since Dave himself says the Moki 1.80 is too much for it.
The various other 1/4 aerobats from GP, H9, WM, etc. are all good flyers. Or are you looking specifically for another CAP 232 to replace the one you lost?

mostin, i have the extreme cap with a 0s 1.60 in it , and you will find this plane and engine a very good combo. i actually bought the plane that was used in the rcu reveiw. it flies as well as any cap, with one very important difference. it does not snap. if you go slow, it will just mush straight ahead. i have actually cut power in flight and just glided to a landing. plus it will 3d pretty well.

I hope to finish assembly soon. I've been told that it's an excellent flyer.

RE: Plane for O.S. 1.60
Steve, two years ago I designed a 3D airplane for a friend after we had a mid-air which left him without a good sport plane. I took into account all the characteristic of what he was looking for, 3D, precision aerobatics and gentle enough for beginners. I came up with a 52" span bird which weighs 4-1/2 pds and has a generous wing loading yet fairly thin airfoil compared to most fun-fly planes. After the first test flights, we were hooked. We named it the "Ultimate Obsession". Since then I have built 7 of them for fellow club members, all which say it is the best flying airplane they have. This one is an enlarged version with a 78" span, 83" long and weighs just a smidge under 14 pds. It came out a little heavier than I wanted but it is build plenty strong for a DA 50, which it will probably get in the future. It is very stable and is more capable of what I am when it comes to 3D and aerobatics. What really gets me though is it requires such little pitch and roll coupling in knife-edge flight, setting up mixers is almost a waste of time, 2% on pitch and 3% on roll coupling.

Hey, I got a plane, mine! Sorry, had to. I have the same Sig Cap231ex and I am lookng forward to flying it. Good luck with your engine placement. I would suggest the Hangar 9 Cap232, a buddy has one with that engine and loves it.

RE: Plane for O.S. 1.60
Hello,, i had a gp extra 300s patty waggstaff,,,w a 160,,, it was not enough engine,,half an aileron stood up on take off,,,,3/4 of a roll 3 feet of the ground later iam am looking for a new plane,,,i chose a dave patrick extra 330L,,,,the patty weighed just over 14lbs,,the dave patrick with a pull pull rudder and duell eleveters servos still came in just over 12 lbs and with a 18/6 wide APC prop,,it will hang from a prop at a little more than half throttle,, and lets talk about how stabble it is ,,,the wings for the two planes(gp extra 300 and the dp 330) are the same size,,the extra was a very stabble flier,,but the dave patrick,,was like a rail,,stabble even tring to recover from any manuver i can throw at it,,, the adjustable horizontal stabblizers will adj out any roll or pitch tendencies,,,that what i did with my 160 os engine,,,,,,oh yeah i sent in my gp extra and they sent me a new one for following there directions on the aileron hing material and it failing,,,never again,,,robart 1/8inch hings and lots of them on all control surfaces,,, ,have a great day

RE: Plane for O.S. 1.60
how does the great planes extra 300 go with an OS 160FX?
i assume it flies well but does it have the power to climb vertically? or is it just a bit too heavy for that?

I have the Great Planes Extra and it climbs fine with the O.S. 1.60. I've used and APC 18X6W which flew the plane very well but am currently using a Mezjilik (sp?) 18X10 and like it better. Good Luck.
