i am looking to put a webra 55gt on one of the .40 size. We are going to build from kit. Has anyone used an engine of this size on one, the weight of the webra is the same as a .46. Will the plane handle the the speed the Webra will produce?

all I can tell you is build strong . I have a rossi .65 on a .46 size plane and all it does is rips the covering off of the plane. I had to reinforce the tail with fliing wires ans the landing gear. I also put screwws thrught the wing tube with a wooden dowel through the aluminum tube. Get My Drift ?

Thanks for the info we talked about fully sheeting the wing with 1/16 balsa and using real hardwood spars in the wing

that would add some weight, which means less speed . The shrike is by no means a floater .

i suggest you do , just to get an idea of how it flies. I wrecked mine not knowing the elevator is unresponsive at a certain speed. So, one of the mods mentioned for a kit is making a bigger elevator.

How does the shrike fly I didn't relize you had one. My buddy has a diamond dust, we both have wild wiz's. I didn't want anther plane just like his. So this was the next best option for the money. I found a website with one that has dual rudders working along with retracts it looks to be real fast and stable

once trimmed out it flies great , but that is it , you have to fly it . Unlike my Machracer it does not slow down to walk speed, and you have to land it on high rates for more elevator control.

yes the Mach Racer is a modeltech plane. I wrecked one sold it and bought another one which has been flying great for over a year now. I have a OS .46 and a tuned pipe on the nose. It is really fast but easy to handle.

Just finished building the Shrike 10 with an OS 32 sx stuffed in the nose. Wondering about balance. Looking at and measuring the plans I come up with 4 13/16" from wing root at fuselage. Wondering what you've come up with and do you balance upside down or right side up ?????? Thanks...

i just checked my plans and instruction manual and could not verify the COG. I do remember balancing it on the 1/4 inch spar right side up . Good luck with the maden flight. If you have not set up dual rates do so and land with high rates so you do have to come in to hot.

To all those that have stuffed a 32 into a shrike 10, about how much weight was added to the tail... I'm looking at 3oz even with the battery in the back. CG at 4 3/4" Sound about right????????

No weight. You had to move that firewall back, try a bigger batt.

I dug out my plans and got the same number. If I remember, I balanced mine upside down. I moved the elevator servo back to get the CG back a bit more. It flairs good on landing now on high rates. For low rates I used as much elevator as I could get without it snapping on full up at full throttle. Currently has a Magnum 15 with APC 8x4.

The 15 will give way to an OS 25FX this winter. I will be moving the firewall back some, about 1&1/2 inch. Does that sound about right? I built a hatch in the back for a 270mah NiCad and don't want to add more weight than necessary. It's at 33 oz now and builds nose heavy with the 15.

3. Has anyone mounted the motor sideways to try and lower the carb? I read in some threads that this helps with the problem of leaning out in tight turns.

I am wondering about this also. I'm rereading this entire thread in prep for my engine swap. I am toying with the idea of rotating engine to put exhaust on top of the fuse. This would get the carb a little more in line with the tank, keep the muffler out of the grass, and prevent an imbalance from side to side (?).

Using the highly innaccurate balance with finger tips method. I got 5&1/4" for the CG, I think it lands slightly nose heavy at this range. Will try to move a little further back during the remake.

I had spoken to the people at Lanier and was surprised to learn that they had originally installed a 32 when designing the plane but due to the insane speeds they opted for a smaller engine. The only modification to the air frame was to extend the nose when installing the the larger engine. Nothing said about moving the firewall back.

If you are worring about weight , you might want to try to make it an EP Shrike. That is the only why I can see keeping a great deal of weight off the Shrike 10. I really don't recommend moving the fire wall back, I went from a AP .15 to a OS .25 and added the weight of a C size battery in the tail and did not notice anything but more speed.

Mine. OS15FP not pictured. If you see someone flying it please punch them in the face and take it from them. I'll pay the shipping. This plane was stolen from my garage. I think I'm finally over it and might build another one.

What a bunch of ***** holes. You should nail it down rather easily by posting on RC Ads web sites ... [:-] Or maybe was it simply trashed... And no, don't punch him in the face, it could be a totally honest guy who just bought it 2nd hand

I really don't recommend moving the fire wall back
Mhhh. It then depends on the spinner, as my friend used a "heavyweight" alu spinner on his os.32 Shrike. It balanced correctly with no lead but with the firewall moved 2 cm backwards. Not moving the firewall backwards on .32 sized engines indeed requires making the fuse a bit longer. Moving the firewall backwards is simple, as Lanier only partially cut the firewall mounting holes. Just glue them back in place, and cut two other ones 2 cm behind, or adjust to your needs to have the back of the prop just in front of the fuselage front end.
