OK guys here's my Shrike. I started looking at your thread a while a go and I got rather interest so here's mine. I mounted a video camera under the canopy shooting out the back. The first flight will most likely be tomorrow. Thanks for getting me interested.

Hi All,

Been a member of the Shrike club without knowing it for several years. I have both the Shrike 40 ARF and a new-in-box Shrike 40 Kit.

One of the things I like about this plane is it lets me practice hi-speed wheel landings on turf it is very stable and highly responsive during landing. Surprisingly it is also very stable during takeoff runs.

This Webra Speed 40 was originally installed in my Pilon Racer and is rock-solid reliable. It has never failed me and typically requres no starter, not even when stone cold.

I flew my Shrike with an SC .15 for many months. Those two were a great match. I have misgivings over stuffing a hot .25 into the standard Shrike 10, I can understand that it may go faster, but doubt whether the overall handling would be much fun although fair to say I haven`t tried it.

I have gone as far as having the plan blown up to 39" span and intend to try that with an OS 25 FX......

It`ll have to be good to match my 'Peacemaker' for fun ........

Yeh, it will take the OS SF .60 I have but, frankly, I don't think it will add more enjoyment to my flying experience. The Webra already gives me a jet-like performance; adding a few more mph with the 60 would, IMHO, be overkill to the max. IMHO!!!

You have to ask Mr Great Planes. He has bought the rights . Unless you can get your hands on a kit (I have two spares, and won't sell them ), there is no way you can [&:].

Still, you can contact GP on their web site... I've already asked them why the Shrike is discontinued [:@]

Maybe someone can copy his plan and send me?
I'll play all copying and delivering charges.

Thank you very much,
Itzik.

Here's an eBay opportunity for you. Someone is selling the kit:

It makes a total of 140$ for this kit.

No. It's not. It's a collectible item now. Moreover I'm not sure the plans has all the ribs...

Mine are laser cut. Quality is pretty good. Not much hardware included though. But who cares, you would have to change it as you plan to overpower this beast.

I have the 40-size kit, still in a box. It is a Lanier product and they, as a norm, do not provide full hardware with their kits; the kit's wood is of high quality and laser cut. Contrary to the other person's assessment of the kits value, it is NOT worth $80.00. Make me an offer for my collectible 40-size version Tower's original price plus shipping. IMHO, I would not categorize it as a collectible yet. It was only discontinued within the last several months. NOTE: There is an alternative to the Shrike 10. Check out this Tower Hobbies's advertisement for the Sig Wonder: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFG10 Since I also have this kit in a box I will look at it and let you know what it contains it is still available from Tower Hobbies. I might even consider selling it to you at a slight discount to Tower's price.

it is NOT worth $80.00.
Well, it's a matter of point of view. Paying $80 for an avaiable kit would be crazy. My point is that it is no longer available whatever the form (plan , short kit, kit ...). So for $80 you buy not only a kit, but also the design, which is very good by essence. With the kit, you are able to produce a high quality plan from the parts, etc... You could ask friends to buy it together just to get the plans for it... Hadn't I three shrike kits in the closet (2 .10 and 1 .40), I would buy it.
The Wonder is not as sexy as the Shrike (the Wonder has a straight wing, while the Shrike has a tapered one). Moreover, the Wonder is not as good a speed candidate has it features a very thick wing section.

Hi Guys. Just going back to what size engine this thing can handle... I put a picco .60 in mine and enclosed the exhast in the fuse. I also added four carbon spars in the wing and extended the vertical stabs. This thing not only moves but its pulling fast turns at right around 200 mph. It is the most fun plane I have ever owned.

Thank you for your offer, But I'm looking for the .10 size, not the .40 .

I also consider to buy only the plan,
Strykaas told me that the plan doesn't include all the ribs that needs to be built, is that correct?

If anyone has the Lanier Shrike .10 for sale please contact me at: [email protected]

I'll be glad to join your club
Thank you very much,
Itzik.

That sounds awesome ! Did you see the other thread where a guy strapped an OPS .60 (?) to the front of it ? Lasted 1 single flight as it simply dropped out of the sky when the engine quit...
You do have to share pictures of your setup !! [8D]

No I didnt see that thred. I had to mix my ailerons so they worked as a elevator also so i could get the plane to pitch with no engine. This also made the plane whip around in the corners. Without an engine it flew like a lawn dart without doing the mixing.

Andrew,

indeed I had seen your pictures, but I thought you were talking about a .10 sized Shrike... Doing that on a .40 is somewhat trivial . Are you sure on the 200 mph mark though ?
