Default cmp extra 300s 140

I'm thinking about getting the CMP extra 300s 140 size and was wondering what the general consensus is on the plane. I really like the looks and it is the perfect size for my
super tiger 2300 and HS-475HB servos. I have heard good things about the same size giles 202 from cmp but cant find much info on this plane. Also which reliable vendor has the best price?

Default RE: cmp extra 300s 140

G'day Mate,
I have CMPro Giles 202, with an OS160 FX, it is a great flyer, easy to assemble, easy to fly.
I found the balance point was way too far forward, in the original position shown on the plans, but with the amount of room inside, this was easy to adjust.
The rudder is very large & needs at least an 11Kg, digital servo, but the other surfaces are fine with 5Kg servos.
I can't comment on the Extra 300,
See pix.

I imagine the gile flied a litte better than the extra because the fuselage is stretched out about another 10 inches. Just want to here some flight experiences, nobody seems to be buying the extra.

jeffk464,

I have the Giles 202 with a Brillelli 26cc up front swinging an APC 17X6 prop. This is a very nice flying plane for what little money you pay for it. A friend at the field just bought the Extra 300 and plans on putting a Brillelli 40cc GT on it.

I have hitec HS475 servos I think will be good for all control surfaces except for the rudder. What would be the minimum servo for the rudder on this size plane.

G'day Jeff,
On my Katana, I found that the minimum rudder servo, to be able to Knife edge, was about 8Kg, I used a Hitec 945MG, but then I went to a JR digital 11Kg, can't remember the numbers on the servo, & it was perfect, I now have the same servo in my Giles 202 & can fly Knife edge circuits, on low rate rudder, your Extra will be similar to the Katana.

I put one of those planes together last year. It was the coolest looking plane I have ever had but also the heaviest (but strong). I put an evolution gt 26 on it and it pulled it around pretty good just for patern flying. Mine was really tail heavey and I had to put a pull pull system on it. The directions say to put the rudder servo in the tail. I also put carbon landing gear on it and threw away all of there hardware (it was all junk). None of the holes came pre drilled including the engine mounts and fire wall. You have to mark and find all of your own holes on all control surfaces and there are not much for directions. All in all I not sure what else I could have expected for just 165 bucks (How do they do it?) but by the time I replaced the hardware and landing gear I probably had another 75$ stuck into it. Still not a bad deal. It is a very strong well put together airplane good for pattern flying. I put ht 625s on the elevator and allerons and a ht 645 on the rudder 2 jr 527s for the choke and throttle. Landing it is a little trickey she comes in fast but I love the way she rolls. She sure is pretty!! (but a little heavey.)
