RE: Seagull Ultimate
I finally bought one and am putting a DLE 30 in it! Only points I'm pondering is should I put the servos in the tail for CG and how to locate the tank so it doesn't block the wing bolts? Waiting to get it mocked up and play w/the parts..

RE: Seagull Ultimate
Nearly finished. Snapped some shots before I ironed out the wrinkles. There weren't many wrinkles but after a couple of days in the garage...
put elevator servos in rear 'cuz its sure to be nose heavy. Hopefully get it mocked up tonight - just have the battery and radio gear to go. Put the fuel tank ( a well used 16oz ) up under the cabanes to put it near the CG and to allow my hand to get in to tighten the wing bolts. Seagull and my hands always seem to have different ideas on where the forward wing bolts should be! Fiberglassed the firewall and used a single bolt for the rudder. Throttle servo up front. Hopefully its maidened this weekend

RE: Seagull Ultimate
Maidened!
A bit of overcontrol w/ the rudder on TO but otherwise..all went well. Plentyyyy of power w/ the DLE-30. A 26cc shouldn't have any problems pulling it.
Great News! I don't have to disassemble it to put it in my Escape! So setup is ..zero! Gotta like it. Landings were easy. Flew it to the ground at high idle and just settled in.

RE: Seagull Ultimate
I maidened mine last weekend as well. Well sort of. I actually finished the plane a couple on months ago with a Saito 100 I had on hand installed. The maiden was less than satisfactory and caused some minor repairs. I parked it until I could secure a new Saito 125 and the results were far better. Great flying plane! Two clicks on the Aile and she was Straight, Level and Plumb I made several landing passes to get used to the feel of a Hotter touch down and then greased it right in. I'm a happy camper and I now have a New Favorite Model!!!

RE: Seagull Ultimate
your going to blow the wing off of it for sure with the 160. i seen the big great planes fly with the os 160 and it was good for that. so dont over do it unless you want to see it come apart in mid air.
i had the goldberg ultimate with a 90 in it it was perfect. witha 120 2 stroke on the seagull it would hang on the prop no problem.
so bigger isnt always better.
happy flying

The 160FX is only 2 oz heavier then the 120 4stroke so i might look into that. Thanks guys. Anyone with a 160 on this bipe let me know.

RE: Seagull Ultimate
The link to the upper aileron from the bottom aileron should be the same correct ? Meaning from the aileron pivot edge. Mine has the upper linkage closer to the trailing edge of the aileron than the bottom, which is causing not as much up travel on top wing.

RE: Seagull Ultimate
That is normal for a bipe. If you want the top and bottom ailes to travel the same amount there are two cures. Cure one is to run a servo for each aile. It's really not practical for this size of plane. Cure two is to change the set up completely. As long as the linkage is attached to the top of one aile and the bottom of the other aile the geometry is never going to be right. You would need to move the linkage mounting point to the top of both ailes or the bottom of both ailes. Then make a notch in the TE of either the top or bottom aile to clear the rod.
My advice would be to fly it like it is. When the Goldberg bipes first came out in the 80's there were thousands of them flying with the exact aileron problem you described. They flew just fine with no adverse effects and your Seagull will too. Is it the right way? Is it the perfect set up? NO! Is it worth fixing? IMHO, no.

Well after 4 years I got around to flying this bird! I never flew it with the glow engine I ended up with a DLE 20 gasser from another project it dropped right in where the OS 120 was so in it went. I like the setup very much for everything except 3D flying. I use it as a goto plane when I want to throw something in the van assembled go out and fly and throw it back into the van no assembly required, in fact the wings have never been off since I built the plane thanks to the neat hatch.
