Ace 4-60 Thoughts?
I picked up a used (and once crashed) Ace 4-60 monoplane from an elderly gent who is retiring from the hobby. I also have a used (but not yet flown) Sig 4*60 ARF I bought from another individual.
Side by side they appear remarkably similar save that the Sig is a low wing and the Ace is a mid wing design. Both have semi-semetrical airfoils. The Ace 4-60 came with an ST .45 2 stroke Bullring engine and a 6ch Futaba Skysport radio (incl four S-148 servos).
The guy who sold me the Sig 4*60 said he had an OS .61 FX and it did "OK" with that. It was bought with no engine or radio.
The assembly and flying instructions were included in the package. Ace said they tested their prototype with an OS 40 FSR and eventually a 12-4 prop.
I guess my question is why the large discrepancy in the engine size between the two designs? Anyone familiar enough with this 4-60 to comment and/or compare with the 4*60?

The Ace 4-60 still has an engine, all it's servos, RX and NiCD installed. My digital scale only goes up to 6lb and I was too lazy to dismount everything (the NCAA game has started). When ACE first put out the kits 4-20, 4-40, 4-60 and the 4-120 the kits were intended to be powered by the 4 cycle engine indicated. hence the name! Over the years I have built and flown all but the 4-120 and they all fly well within the power indicated. Even the 4-40 bipe flew with a Saito 4 stroke,tho not as aerobatic as planes today!

To answer your question, both airplanes are "60 size" airplanes. The fact that the 4-60 was powered by a 45 has more to do with the way the "elderly gent" wanted to fly it than with anything else. Both airplanes will fly reasonably well on a 45. Both airplanes will fly with more authority on a 60. All depends on how you want to fly it.
