Balsa USA Smoothie

RE: Balsa USA Smoothie
It's been over a year since anyone posted anything about the BUSA Smoothie. Here's mine, scratch built. There are some minor changes to the nose shape and I rounded the fuse sides behind the cockpit. Power is a Super Tigre 46 Bullring. Finish is acrylic enamel with hardener.

Super job Ed. It was the great looking planes on this thread that prompted me to find a set of plans and build a Smoothie. Mine hasn't flown. I don't have a radio in it, and the engine is new and needs to be broken in. I am half thinking about scaling up the plans to 65 inches and building one for a 60.

RE: Balsa USA Smoothie
I'll bet that would be a great plane, this 40 size flies like a dream, the maiden flight was perfect, and the landing speed, characteristics are the best Ihave had. It flies in windy conditions with out a problem. Idon't even know how many flights are on it. The last time I flew it, Itook off, rolled inverted and flew the pattern and figure8s inverted. It is just a very well mannered plane. It has an OS48 4 stroke. not the fastest, but enough to power it.

I had one years back with an OS 61 long stroke in the nose. Miss that plane! Had an extra set of cheek cowls for a Sig midget mustang that I put on the Smoothie as well...looked REAL sharp IMO
