Four Star 40 with Retracts

I was considering retracts in a 4 star 40. Power is a 4 Stroke .61 so I dont believe weight will be an issue. Any input would be appreciated.

RE: Four Star 40 with Retracts

OK, read through the thread tonight. Need confirmation on this set up.

.61 four stroke ( Inverted Mount ) 3 blade prop ( Need suggested Size ), cowl over the top of the engine bay, make hatch over the fuel tank.

Retracts to smooth it out in the air. ( May even put in a retractsble tail wheel! )

Knock off one bay either side of the wing, Block and sand the tips, extend the Ale's, independent servo's for each. Kick down the Dihedral a bit to flatten out and speed up.

Extend the rudder and elevator and open up the gap for more throw. PULL/PULL system for rudder (looks cool )

I like the stringer look of the turtle deck - so that will stay stock.

Move CG to 30% of cord.

Cover with some hot graphics, take lots of pictures. Pray. Then fly.

C'mon folks kit will be arriving and I'd like to have this confirmed, winter is a builders friend.

If you have done any or all of this please comment.

Wing is not as strong as others very little sheeting just in center and TE dont forget to glass wings in center!retracts will also move wheels back and might have trouble on takeoff. I flew mine with a K&B Screamin 48 you might want more power with the added waight. Gonna have to beef up the wing and get the wheels forwotd of the LE to get it to ballance on the ground.
this is that my 4* looks like now before and after good luck

Yep, I did everything you mentioned except the retracts. I also used the 4 star 120 kit so I had more room to work. Especially with the pull/pull rudder.

Can you design it like an AT-6 wing and make little fairings for the wheels? That will get your retract mount blocks ahead of the spar. I've thought of retracts for this airplane for some time but never took the plunge!
