Who fly's out the old year and new year in?

Our club has a tradition of flying on Dec 31st eve and Jan 1st morning every year. We brave the cold in Kentucky. Even if it ain't that cold. :-P Does anyone else do that?

Peace,
J

Yes. I normally go out on New Years day with wheels, skis, or floats ..depending on the snow conditions or lack of.
A small group flies all year round.

At our Club, we run an informal 'Contest' asking the membership to make claims as to who was the last to fly in the old year and who claims to be the first to fly in the new year.

At another Club, there used to be a group who would fly at about 1 minute after Midnight (electric, of course, with lights) every year.

My suggestion is to have the Club President or Newsletter Editor put out a 'Challenge' to see who 'fesses up. Then, give them a little bit of ink in the next Newsletter or at the Meeting!

Just my $.02

I've been doing that for years! I keep working to earn my AMA "All Season Flyer" patch each year. It's been only a few that I hven't been sucessful. Not counting the years I took a break from R/C when I lived in Romania.
So, this year will also be a COLD first flight! Already have several flights in for December here in North/Central Pennsylvania.

That's the good thing about Tennessee weather, if you don't like it , just wait a little while. Mid 70's one day, mid 20's the next. I've been able to fly several days in the last two weeks and been buddy boxing a student on his T-28. Looks like this week may put me into withrdrawal symptoms though.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../sad_smile.gif
Regardless of temp, If it aint raining, I'll fly my lighted T-28 and J-3 at midnight on the 31. If it's above 30F and not raining, I'll fly my 1/4 scale cub on the 1st.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

Our club has a "first in flight" fun fly on New Year's Day. A mass take-off at 10 AM and the first airborne holds the trophy for the year. Depending on the weather, the group will fly for about 30-60 minutes and then head for a late breakfast. I plan to be flying on New Years Day...

Our club has an annual 'Frozen Needle Valve' fly-in on New Year's Day. Pilots begin showing at first light. Everyone who flies gets a button. Coffee, hot chocolate, and breakfast sandwiches for all. By 10:00 or so, we do a group photo. A few years ago, it was in the 40's and we flew all day. Most other years, we abandon flying shortly after the group photo in favor of warmer places.

A chap from our Club went out to the Club field at about 11:45PM with his granddaughter. He was the last guy to fly in 2012, and his granddaughter was the first to fly in 2013 - all in the span of about an hour.

Didn't get any video, but I flew the daylight out of Dec 31 with my old faithful1/4 scale Balsa Usa Cub, flew the dark out of Dec 31 with my lighted Hobbyzone Super Cub. Flew the first day of new year by maidenening a new .40 sized J3 arf and my old faithful Parkzone T-28. J3 was bought to be a float plane, and will be as soon as the floats are done.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

I'm the lucky one...flew two flights on the 31st, and two or three flights every day in January except Thursday.
