rcu instant messenger
just in case none of you saw this as a reply in the currently existing thread about rcu chatrooms, has rcu considered an rcu instant messenger? it would allow users that are online at the same time to communicate much quicker. private messenges are great, but they wont give the oppertunity to talk live, not to mention not everybody checks their private messenges often. what do you think?

i think that's cool, but maybe I don't understand. Couldn't you just swap email addresses for msn messenger or something. I already don't want to install more than one messenger (ie. yahoo, AOL, MSN da da da tah).

not just the marketplace, but everywhere!
i am not talking about swapping emails, i am talking about signing on as your username and have the ability to contact someone who is online and chat in real time.

ideally we can show some aim, messenger, yahoo icons and you could click them to talk to those who are online. we disabled them to speed up page loads. the ability to make our own proprietary chat application might not have enough benefit to warrant such an expensive and time consuming project.

We have both windows and linux to run our stuff. Which one would be easier for you to deal with? also I appreciate the offer. We might be willing to test the water on it. Would we be able to do moderated "celebrity guest" type sessions?

windows would be easier, i only have experiance with windows programming, except php. what database does the site login use? i could make it authenticate to that. im not sure what you mean about the moderated guest sessions, but we can sort that out hopfully [&:]
