Default ST 61 Parts interchangeability

Are the internals from S61 interchangeable with an S61K? I had unfortunately an "uncontrolled landing" with my round head S61 which resulted in breaking the exhaust stack and tearing out the muffler bolt lug on the crankcase. So far, the only case I have found is for the rectangular headed motor with threaded muffler mount holes. The asking price for this case is a lot less than what I was quoted for a repair by an aluminum welder. He wants more than it would cost to buy a G61.

One reason I am asking is that I read the posts about the interchangeability of parts for a G90 being usable in a S90K with the piston and rod being not interchangeable.

JB WELD. Try it for the exhaust lug. Gob it on, shape as needed, drill and go. What do you have to lose? I did it in a ST 51 and it worked. Be sure to clean the area well before applying the JB WELD.

Some parts will work, some won't. Crankshaft, piston, ring, and carb for sure, liner is likely different because the S-61 had a 6-bold head and the G-61 has a 4-bolt head, so the cutouts in the top of the liner will be different. A bit of work with a file, though, and you should be able to make it work.
