Ok Brian, pic's and how much ; )
That was close Simon!
Phil, good advice and definitely things I'll be considering. Big yes to kit I put together myself, that way I'll think it's put together right!
Cheers.

Hi again Ken!
I think I'm gonna hold on to it!
It's really a nice bird and as Phil would attest it's the PERFECT size!
I have a 50 bux FBL head on it and the Copter X and flies like a dream! Imagine how stable your 450 FBL is and think about the xtra mass of a large 500!
Niiiiiiiice.
I have packages at the house waiting on me to include the T/T tail upgrade!
I initially can't see getting a larger bird!
I have to say though that with the advent of the 3G gyros and the added stability (read: Electronic "mass") for my flying style (never letting the bird get 2' away from me) I'm having a decision point.
If I continue to not utilize a larger flying field (I have three to chose from) I may scale back my fleet to just 450 and below b/c it really isn't a good idea to fly in my front yard like I do![:@]
All the best!

Hey all,
I'm still sorting through all the gyro suggestions, thus far
I have it narrowed down to the Spartan Qurak and the
Futaba GY520. I have my eye on one of each in ebay.
But right now, I have two backlight's coming for my DX6i,
but I couldn't decide which color I wanted so...LAUGH !, I
ordered two, a blue one and a green one. I would have
ordered three, but the white one wasn't available from the
same seller......rats.

That really is a pretty bird, and very docile in your hands. A local came over with his 500, it is a little scary, big parts to go flying in a crash too! I'm still shopping and ain't quite sure yet. Gonna get an mcpx if I can find one for sale for reasonable!
Roger, I love my backlight, did you get the hk light panel to mod or did you get a kit?
Stay cool everyone in this heat everyone,

Hi guys, been struck down by the flu for the last week so by the time I get home from work all I want to do is sleep.
Weather here hasnt been the best so no flying even if I was feeling better.
On the mend now so hoping to get some tuning done on the GT this weekend.
I noticed a while back Brian finding a new FBL Gyro and noticed a bit of interest building on it in some other forums.
Seems to handle vibrations better, easier to set up and can have 2 sat RX's connected.
Best thing is it can be programmed through usb without having to power up the heli. Much safer. That is apart from the initial setup of servo directions and throws.
Anyway found it here for $66 so a good price. www.himodel.com/radios/ROBIRD_Flybarless_System_3-Axis_Gyro_G31.html
And here is a link to the discussion forum. Only just started but might keep an eye on it. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php

@ Ddaddy
If your question pertainsto a Hobby King kit, than yes, but I purchased
them (2) through ebay. I know I paid more than what Hobby King sells
them for, but I'll have them tomorrow (Saturday)...only three days
instead of a months time.
Temperatures hit 104 degrees here today, very unusual for 8 miles
from Lake Michigan.....HOT!

Brian, you should scale that 500 and fly it at a field. The 500 can fly slower giving better approach of a scale helicopter. A multirotor would be better. But then there are too much to spend on it.
Simon, I think I have missed some flights of yours. Soon.
Roger, I don`t know if you`re willing to spend that much for a Quark or a Futaba GY520, but if you do then it should be a good choice, I think.
But the GY520 you`ve been told here is the cheaper Leaderhobby GY520.
One thing though, it will take ages to arrive as it will be mailed through Swiss Post.
One esc and one Sport tail, different packages, took 40 days to arrive and still I don`t have them in my hands, as they arrived Friday afternoon and so I`ll get them by Monday...
Maybe you could take a look if you find it locally or at USA.
On the other hand the Spray & rescue fire truck arrived the next day here, from UKto Germany to Greece, with just £6 for a really big box as they put the original box into a protection box. That`s a speedy service, cheap too.
All, the wind here stopped at last ! But the temp got raised too much ! And I have to complete the building of the bookcase - office furniture. So still no flying!
Have a great weekend,
Spiros

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Well I haven't been on recently, fixed an amp and I have 4 more guitars to go to fund the hobby!
Well after a week I am quite astonished at my progress. Phil can attest to my maiden flight of a CP helicopter , but I am now starting to get the hang of the controls and responsiveness of the MCPX. I can fly it inside the small living room comfortably and zip it around quite nicely and the minor corrections are now starting to become habitual which is great. Today I flew my first whole flight of 5:30 on the timer where I did not have to land or flick TH. Considering that 7 days ago I was too scared to get it in the air.
For my big 450, the new flybar is on its way and once thats done I may swap out the 2218 motor in my new one for a 2215. For me that would be the right choice as I don't need mega power (just yet
Also ordered a 11T pinion and Pete gave me a Posh Git Align Pinion Gear Set. It has a 11, 13 and 15 teeth pinion gears, as well as Labelle 107 oil and a Posh Git 1.56mm screw driver which are amazing with my other GT/MT helicopter. The Turnigy 1.5mm hex does NOT work in any of them, but the Posh one does the job magnificently :0.
Will hopefully nail down Nose-In flight in the coming weeks!
Phil and Rob and Hopefully Ingleburn we need to organise a fly day again!

I had 2 2215's fail on me in short order, 1 a broken shaft (no crash, normal flight) and the other dies. Autopsy showed shotty soldering inside. I know I just got a bad batch as these are decent cheap motors and they worked well (for a few flights) before they broke. I may be wrong but being a new flyer to cp I don't think your gonna tell much (any?) differnce between a 2215 and 2218 with normal (learning) sport flying.
Culd be wrong though, happened once before ; )
Cheers Everyone,
Ken

Hi Guy's,
A set of Ino-Lab HGD-202HB's arrived today. Thanks to Ingleburn who sent me a buddy code for them which brought them under $17 each
Now what to do with them?? I was going to keep them as a spare set for when have the inevitable mishap with one of my flybarless heli's. But, you know what I think I'll treat my $9 LH-450 heli to some posh cyclics! This one. I'll mount them outside the frame so I can easily borrow them if needed.
I'll give the corona's HK-939mg's one last flight tomorrow....
Simon

@ Oldfrog - If you are wanting a single axis gyro then the Quark is the one to beat. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MLz2DsZKx0]Here[/link] is the setup. It's THAT easy!
@ Ken - It is a lovely, large, easy to fly (not so easy to be scared of) bird!
@ Ingleburn - Sorry to hear you have the flu. If it's the actual influenza I have had it three times in my life and thought I was going to die! Grrrrrrrrr! Good to hear it's letting up! In your post above you spoke of getting the Robird 3G..........but you didn't write the punch line. Did you pull the trigger?? I can't wait to see how it works!
@ Spiros - I am starting with the 450 scale and take my time and do it RIGHT! If I "take to it" I MAY look up to the 500 scale!!
@ Kozz - Glad your pocket money projects are coming along and agree with Ken, leave the 2218 where it is!
@ Simon - Posh Git servos!!
@ All - Home at last from my "away trip" as the other crew has come to take our 'stead! Lots of packages abound and once I get an actual good nights sleep I will start working on my scale fuse! For now...........just good to be home!
Yer pal in heli's!

I have the same problem as well. What to do with them? If I cant get the 933's and the DS480 sorted in the GT then looks like Ill change them for the 202HB's and a DS420.
That way I can put the half decent stuff in the other GT.
@ Brian. No i didnt pull the trigger on the Robird yet. Although I do have some nice servos coming that would suit.
Good to see you back home and looking forward to some blather when your rested up.
@ Kozzy. Got to agree on the 2218. They have different sized pinions for a reason.
@ Ken. A belated welcome back. A quick search found you dissapeared after post 3 on the old thread. I bet a few things have changed since then.
@ All. Speaking of old friends has anyone seen or heard of Buzz lately? Wonder if he ever managed to hover a 450 without crashing it.

Hobbycool sure is hitting the market hard!
4 servo's and an orange rx and you've got a pretty darn good 450 FBL beastx clone here for about $200!

Not a good day for me today.
Took the GT out and the tail is still terrible. Time to pull the DS480 off and try the align 420.
Cyclics were better after lowering the gains 3 points and I can live with the slight shudder.
The new MCPX took a beating while trying a few loops. Did 2 really shakey ones but a few ugly crashes that split the tail boom and snapped a feathering shaft. To top it off wrecked a set of blades when I landed to close to my carry case.
Maybe I should get used to flying with 100% D/R before I try anymore stunts.

Hiya Ingleburn!
Sorry to hear about yer day. I will say that the 420 will most likely solve your tail issues though!
I find it fascinating that you actually killed the MCP X. One has to really try to make that happen!!!
I'm going to break mine out in a few and see what I can do!

Congratulations, you have officially come over, to the DARK side!

The specs are great!
One tip now that you are new to the 500 class, Rob and Simon do this with the 450s.
Fly it as close to you as possible[:@]
Don't be afraid of it, it WON'T hurt you!
Enjoy!!!
