Howdy.... well finally a successfull maiden on my Tarot 500 FBL build. Still have a couple of settings to adjust but all went well for it's maiden flight. It's back to rain here for the next few days so not sure when I'll be back out again. Initial impressions are that it's a great sized heli. Much easier to see in the air compared to the 450 and sounds better as well. Overall very happy with it so far. Viddy with blather....

My mcpx does ok...I guess the motor just isn't worn out yet (have replaced tail motor a couple times though). But then again, I use correct sized batteries (and when they get weak it is very noticable). I get swash issues too but have learned to take out the magnifier and usually find one of my wifes hairs in the works. Periodic thorough cleaning helps (alcohol spray liberaly and silicon spray afterwards).

But yea, an amazing little bird that it can fly in as much wind as it does. If it was scaled a 500 should be able to fly in a hurricane!

And why would I want another 500? I don't fly mine much as it is...I do need to fly it more...thinking maybe I don't like it as much because it's too underpowered, it has the 500L motor...heck, my 450 scorpion may have more power!

And take care of that cough!

Cheers,
Ken

Hiya Ken!

THIS is the way the MCP X should have come!

As for the 500, HK prolly has the motor you need!

As for the cough, it is a DIRECT result of coffee abuse and NOT eating early enough.

Reflux!

I really, really like that 500 of mine! I can't wait to get out to the club this week!

Hmmmm mebbe I'll fly my slow stick for the 2nd time in the morning!

All the best!

I'll say this about the HK B a s t a r d s and their motors!

They tend to be under rated!!

My ole HK 500 was UNREAL!

Good motors I've bought from them at a VERY reasonable price!

Yes, that is the one. I've been using the 2218's in my 450's and they are excellent. I have it on good authority that they are rebadged Suppo motors ->http://www.suppomodel.com/motor/H2218.html

I don't recall ever having wore one of them out.

I DID have two incidents of merit though:

1) The sticker on one partially came off and it sounded EXACTLY what I percieved that a "Bashhee" might sound like if it screamed.

Scared the crap outta me!

2) You CAN shear off the pinion, shaft and all if you crash really, really good!

Yeah best to take the sticker off the can even though they are pita to get off. I wore out a bearing on the 2218 after about 250 flights. Never put a drop of oil in there. Wasn't worth replacing the bearing at $12 bucks for a motor, just got a new one.

Yah, imagine if you will the expression on my goofy a s s face as whilst flying my HK450GT FBL/TT in my front yard when all of a sudden I hear WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

I think my little motor only got up to 100ish flights with crashes too numerous to count (two dozen I think)!

I had 2 2215's go bad...one shaft broke on me just as I was coming in to land. Since I usually use TH to land it was no big deal but noise of the unloaded motor got my attention!  With that said, I don't think the 2215's were/are Suppo.  I wonder if HK is like Sears washing machines...could be any brand depending on the contract year!

Anyway, thinking about that motor.  Forums say the Align 60 amp handles it just fine....but I'm loving the yep...but the 80 amp one is $40!

Definately go the 2218 over the 2215. The 60 amp should be fine with the 500 motor. After 4 and a half minutes flight on the 500 the yep 80 was cold and the motor was just warm so I'm happy with that.

In RED is prolly closer to the truth!

They spec out to a bunch of vendors and get the lowest!

Still, I never had to cough up much dough for a relatively good motor!

Tough luck on your 15's mine did pretty well but were too small and got switched out for the 18's.

So... been flogging my Axe 100 CP for a week now and...

It flies EXACTLY like the 9 Eagles 125A, because that's what it is; only with firmware to connect ot the Tactic TX-R/AnyLink. The mainboard even has a 9 Eagles part no on it.

It flies a lot like a stock Genius CP in 3 Axis mode; big thin blades that need high headspeed and a thin pitch curve. I'm still trying to get it dialed in on my Turnigy 9XR; been a bit busy doing a review on the V913 4CH FP (Think 4CH Fixed-Pitch Double Horse 9053; actually, it's a 9117 with the servos mounted laterally and WL Toys Firmware/TX) and really haven't had enough stick time with it. The frame is nice & rigid, with lots of room for your favorite C05/H05 motor, room on the bottom of the RX bracket for an ESC, and it uses the HK 5330 micro digital servos that cost $3 each.

I think that their going to an 8T pinion helps a lot with making it punchier; given its AUW is (depending on who you talk to) 5-8 grams heavier than the Genius. I like the motor a LOT on my 1 Genius that's still stock; feels like a C05 with 9T pinion.

I recommend, if you're going to get one, to get two. It's easy to do $50 worth of damage in a single crash, plus you get 2 batteries and a decent charger with rate adjustable from 300-700 MAH.

If you don't mind spending the extra $40 for the RTF, it comes with the TX610 preprogrammed; it's a basic segmented-LCD computer TX similar in functionality to the Devo 7.

I felt that money was better spent buying another heli, so I got a 100FP too, since I was curious to see how a flybarless FP heli would fly in comparison to my V911s that I STILL love. From what I can see tail, servos, head (but not grips) and canopy will interchange with my 100CP; so even just for parts it's still a win.

Tower is offering free standard (Ground) shipping on any $99 or more order through Friday, May 31; that means that if you get 2, you get the 2nd one for $40 as compared to their standard $9.99 shipping.

It's REALLY crazy cheap on a heli that's already well known and very popular under the 9 Eagles brand; I WANT the BL version, don't get me wrong, but not for $140 & $199 respectively. I can buy a C05 and Dual BLHeli ESC from HK for $30 and be ready to go brushless tail too when I feel like it.

Also, they've STILL got the Tactic AnyLink modules in their Scratch & Dent sale for $12.50:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTS1000p?&C=L

I MIGHT, though, buy a set of the Night Flying blades for the Axe 100 SSL just to see if I can hack them into mine without spending the extra money for the head, mainshaft, maingear and brush block. Daryoon did it, I think I'm smart enough to figger it out.

They've got the Axe 100 SS & SSL RTFs in stock now, as well as CNC Aluminum Head and Swash that are backwards compatible. Shiny!

Oh, and you guys just reminded me... when I ordered my FRSky radio bits from HobbyKing, I also ordered a $15 11000K C05M motor:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ade_mCPx_.html

from 'em cuz I had the weight to spare and I was thinking about going BL on my 2nd Genius; look what came in the box! Now I cant decide whether to put it on a Genius or an Axe 100!

Brian, YOU WANT THIS!

Good luck and have fun!

Miracles do happen. After many years of not being able to watch a viddy at work, I happen to click on Brian's MCPX flight and it loaded, usually just get snow indicating unauthorised access denied.

Had a 11 minute practice flight at the club last weekend with the 550 under guidance of an instructor as I am not allowed to fly all alone the club yet. Must pass a proviciency test first.

Have agreat day all.

Hiya mnenennth!

I SO enjoy your posts!

Full of energy and fun!

Yah, I pried my wallet open and bought THIS:

X BRUSHLESS CONVERSION KIT-P: HP05 Brushless Main Motor, StevePCB, XP-7A + Matching Upgraded Powerful Brush Tail (Red) for the MCPX/mCP X2
WWW-McpxBlKit-P-HP05-StvPCB+XP7A+TAIL-RED * 1 $74.17 $74.17
Subtotal: $74.17
Shipping & Handling: $6.95
Tax: $0.00
Order Total: $81.12

It turned my MCP X into an amazing machine!

My MONSTER 500mah batteries I think are a little large for it (weight wise) and will spring for some 300s!

Cool heli's that you've turned us on to!

Alas I'm one of those insidious Scottish minimalists (Read: tighter than bark on a tree)!

On a similar note I took the Horizon Hobby poll and basically told them that I like their stuff but only after someone has Beta tested their Charlie stuff!

I indicated that I wait about a year after someone else has knocked the bugs out!

They gave me THIS 15% off code for my time. Y'all prolly got it but here it is HHS2013!

Brian

just wakin' up from night shift!

WOW that's cool news!

Although I'm sorry that the 1st thing you had to see that day was my goofy face!!

It's good on them that you have to fly proficiency test. I really think my place should have done it. If I ran it, it would be done waaaaaay differently!

Just a few things like:

NO drinking and flying!

Only pilots may fly that have proven that they can actually fly with a helper!

NO LITTERING!

That's it!

Well, time to go grocery shopping!

All the best and I am soooooo pleased you are at a Club and flying!

What! I get thirsty when I fly! Next you'll be saying no drinking and driving!

NO LITTERING!

I'm shocked that we are still so uneducated as a society

I will admitt I fly after a few beers sometimes. Albeit it's my property and just me around. With that said, I do take it very easy and can tell the effects. Umm, I may have lied...I might have flown my plank after a beer or 2 over other property...d@mn you rb! jk

It's kinda funny.

I was one to never experiment with alcohol but I was in FULL SCALE RESEARCH!

Type II has put a stop to that but I never flew ANY of my aircraft after having imbibed!

Not that I am superior in that realm just cheap!

The irony was never lost on me that I would routinely have a glass of wine and quite legally pilot a 4200lb Nissan Titan but NOT fly one of my babies!

Funny how that works!
