Hi guys. I own the old 450 xl t-rex, but flew it only half an hour or so, because i broke 2 motor shafts. (the stock align and a 3200 mistery). Before i order another motor (cause i cant seem to find replacement shafts for the mistery - very easy to swap if i could find them), what should i check in the heli itself that might account for the broken shafts? maybe someone as already experienced and solved this problem? any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

As far as i understand, the 315 blade would result in a wilder trex. And the 335 blade make your trex to behave like an old man; ie. slow movements. But i havent tried these blades before as my friends recommend me to use 325 blades.

Wow, I have never even heard of a motor shaft breaking. That's weird. Maybe it tight between the pinion and the main gear. Though set up properly you should have a slight gap. I use cellophane from a pack of cigarettes. works great for that.

Once I broke a brushless motor shaft; but that's from my first heli; the W36; which I sold it. I replaced the main shaft; and fixed the tail servo link; now it has a straight shot to the tail.

After fixing everything; I found out that feathering shaft is bent. Yikes!! another stop to the hobby shop;

2.3 mm shafts snap like twigs. Usually the 3.17mm shafts won't break unless you grind a flat spot on them or something. They still do though!

Buy a quality motor with a 3.17mm shaft. This is going to have to be a researched personal choice. Make sure it is quality. It will last your for a couple or three years.

I've been running a 2.3mm shaft on a 3300kv motor for the past year with no problems. It's got the 11T pinion and works fantastic. The only reason I am considering swapping to my 3.17mm shaft (my motor came with two shafts), is so I can use my 12T pinion (which is a 3.17 size). I don't really need the 12T on there, I'm just curious to see the performance difference. Battery, Motor, and ESC all stay very cool even when I fly 3 packs back to back.

finally i got the trex fixed; i did a test flight in the living room. So far; it still stable; however; i did some wobling of the tail with ruddle stick. I'm not sure what else is affecting the tail; could be my 401 gyro??

Well, had a crash today. Third one this week! The first was just a skim on my blades which resulted in a blade change and no other damage. The second, today, was an actual crash after I got disoriented with a nose in situation. Surprisingly there was no damage at all. I couldn't believe it, I hit the ground, it tumbled, the blades folded, and I feared the worst. After an inspection, I could find no damage so I continued the flight. I was getting some really good nose in FF through the rest of that battery and into another before I hit a soccer goal! I couldn't believe I smacked into it, and the worst part was that the heli probably would have been okay if it had just been the netting, but of course it had to hit one of the structural poles of the goal too. It was just hanging there all tangled in the net about 4 feet up. Destroyed the blades, feathering shaft, and bent the flybar. I guess it could have been worse. It's all back together now and I'm waiting for my locktite to dry.

The best part was that I was doing really well. I had it flying in circles out in front of me. I felt pretty good when the nose would come towards me and I was even able to slow it down and fly nose in a bit but I found that as long as I had a little bit of FF, the nose in wasn't sooo bad. Well gotta go order some more spares... :-)

Ok, the trex flys ok; I did some mid inputs on the ruddler; the tail didn't wag. The flying conditions were calm with no winds; so I guess I have to test it again.

I did took it over 30 feet high; and everything seems ok. I did see some tracking issue when hovering at eye level; but on the ground; I don't have tracking issues. Should I change my end points on my futaba tx? or just live with it....

Guys,

I planned on using my Trex 450 or HDX 450 to sling a coaxial rotor Lama but fear that a big catastrosphy will result,
that's why I ask you guys if anyone has tried to lift a Lama with his 450 and what danger is he facing, if any.

helifan,

That seems like a vry low sensitivity setting. maybe its because you have the servo reversed and the setting is in reverse. Do the lights indicate it is still in HH mode?

I'm getting ready to build my SE V2. There is a small bag (which may have come from the larger bag that contains the fins and tail rotor assy) labelled "screw parts". It contains some screws, a ball link (for tail servo?), a short ball link rod, a small cylindrical brass bushing, and a blue anodized piece that looks like the standoffs for the frame except it's fluted at both ends.
Can someone tell me where these go? I suspect the brass bushing is for the tail servo ball, but I don't know what the anodized piece and the short link are for.

Mine came with spare parts. That may be your spare part bag. The brass bushing may be a spare for your seesaw assy, it goes on the main shaft. But I'm not sure without you showing pictures.
