T-Rex 450 SE V2
Hello All,
I am going to get a T-Rex 450 SE V2 (if I can find one )
I have to buy my first "real" radio & receiver, I can afford a good one, But I don't want to waste money
I also need the servo's too, I would like to pick sevvo's that fit the T-Rex 450 SE V2 with out any hassles or mods
(and I don't want to pick the "wrong" tail servo, Like the one that keeps frying from 6v)
I am going to get the gy401 (unless you guys think there's a better one)
So I need help deciding on:
1) Transmitter
2) Receiver
4) Servo's
5) Tail Servo
Anything else you guys think?
a BEC maybe?
a place that I should order the gear from ?
a place that actually has a T-Rex 450 SE V2?
Thanks !
Joe

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
I will definatly suggest a DX7, the speed is unsurpassed, the programing is excellent in regards to interaction, and the price is great in comparison for 2.4 technology.
The DX7 can now be had through Horrizon Hobby as a microlite system with ar6100 Rx and 3 ds285 servos for $340 SPM2720.
Or you can get the Dx7 and ar6100 together from Esprit model http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp...S&Category=659 for $267
For servos many including myself feel the HS65MG's from Hitek are the best, great torque and speed with metal gears, or you can get the HS65HB and replace with metal gears later.
The servo with 6V troubles is 3154 from Futaba, the 9650 is great digital and can be had in combination with the 401.
With the 35x Esc running a 6V internal Bec, there's no need for an external Bec, Temp.s are low.
Grand RC has good combo deals for the kit with your choice of servos, gyro, and Esc.
You'll have to shop around for the next available batch of V2's.

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
I just got REAL LUCKY... I did a Google on "T-REX 450SE V2" (i left out the word new) and found hoverhobbies.com out of Jacksonville.
I called and left a msg for the store and they called me back like an 1/2 hour later (which Helihobby NEVER does) and they HAD ONE LEFT IN STOCK !!!!!
I talked to "Terry" for like a half hour on the phone (real nice guy) and anyway my T-Rex 450 SE new V2 Wood Blades-Silver KX015053A
will be here this SAT 4-21 (he only charged me $25 express shipping @ 6.5 pounds with the metal case and battery)
Being new at this I can only fly forward and backwards about 40 feet, and I can slide side to side like 40 feet, and I can fly the heli around in a circle
while I spin around 360 degrees keeping the tail towards me the whole time, I don't crash, BUT I just can't seem to get the reverse orientation to fly "around"
I feel like I'll never get it.... so anyway, that worked out great cause I wanted the wood blades anyway.
I feel like it's Christmas !! WOW!! I will FINALLY have a "REAL" Heli, I started with the FP Piccolo V2 and in like a week felt like a FP heli was the worst thing ever
(Here is my post about it from last year [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4365323]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4365323[/link])
Then I bought a Blade CP Pro $250, Much better but I started to realize that having a motor on the tail is just bad
Then I got a Honey Bee King V2 $200 (belt drive) and I immediately felt like a better pilot with the belt drive, much more predictable,
Control stays even through the life of the battery, After 1 day of flying the belt drive I Knew I had to get a T-REX
Anyway Terry at hoverhobbies.com says he can get some more T-REX 450SE new V2's, he says it's hit or mis depending on the day you try and order them.
I told him people are having trouble finding them and so if you want one drop him a line and let him know, His price is the same list price as everywhere and he was a nice guy to talk to, very helpful
Now I have to get the Radio gear and learn to program a Transmitter, How hard is it to program a DX7?
Can you just get someones settings for their T-rex and enter it into your Transmitter?
I had a few old 3c Thunder Power 1320's They seem to work great, I like Thunder Power, Are the 2070 extreme the best power / flight time to weight ratio ?
I'll take Pics as soon as it gets here
Thanks Everyone!

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
Generally the DX7 settings you find will be fine for your heli except for the trims which will be specific to your bird. Just follow along and use a little common sense and you should be hovering in no time.
You will probably want some more lipos of the 2100+ type. I am currently really liking the DN Power 2150s.

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
A couple of questions
1) Is there any reason why I would get the ar7000 Receiver over the ar6100 Receiver ? (Is the dual pickup that important to range?)
2) Are the 2070 extreme the best power / flight time to weight ratio ?
3) When you say "Generally the DX7 settings you find will be fine for your heli" Does that mean they are in the Transmitter already?
4) I went looking for a combo deal on the 401 Gyro and the 9650 Tail Servo, I keep seeing the 9254 for more money, what is the difference?
Thanks Again
Joe

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
so your spending about $1000 o $1500 for this setup the AR6100 is on backorder due to a issue and they will be back soon with a 1.2v tag and cost about $50
the AR7000 comes with your DX7 and they only cost $99 for another if i was spending that much to build something i would go the extra just to make sure there are no issus.
just saying better to be safe then sorry i know its a little overkill but it comes with the DX7 i will buy another AR7000 for my P-51 Mustang after the heli is setup.

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
The only difference you're going to notice with the AR6100 and the 7000 is the 7000 is bigger. The range on the 6100 is more than adequate for a t-rex 450 - if it goes out of range chances are you placed it on the back of a truck and it drove away.
For your battery question - I don't think there is one good answer. The Thunder Powers are expensive but supposed to be good. I like the DN Power 2150s (20c). I also have Align 2100s (20 and 22c). All decent batteries are going to be roughly in the same weight and size range.
And when I said DX7 settings you will find will work - I mean ones you come across as suggestions on forums or sites. Plenty of people have posted theirs - just search around.

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
Thanks devmode,
The only reason I ask about the battery's flight time to weight ratio is because I wonder if there is a battery that has more amps for longer flight time without losing the extra flight time to the extra weight
(I don't want to buy 3 or 4 battery's only to find there is one with some more amps & flight time)
BTW, My T-rex is here !! Should I just use the manual or follow some kind of online guide (this is my fist CP build, and my eyes are not what they were a year ago)
Thanks Again Evryone

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
exra flight time is a good thing - just buy some decent batteries andyou will be fine. 30-40 dollars right now with a good brand is going to last you awhile. align, dn power, thunder power and a few others.
i bought a larger sonix 2200 a while ago just for the hell of it and for regular flight it is still great. just buy in your budget and stick with what is known to be a good make.

RE: T-Rex 450 SE V2
Hi Joe,
I just bought the v2 a few days ago The setup I got was the T-Rex 450 SE V2, 3 Hitek HS65HB, a futaba 9650 in the tail. The Gy 401 gyro. And the dx7 with the AR7000. I only know how to fly a Blade cx2 so this will be a challenge. All these things came highly recomemded by more then three heli pro`s. I bought mine from a mail order hobby store in Sufferen NJ. There prices were very good.
They are Power Hobby. I believe they are powerhobby.com. Good luck to you let me know how you do. Now I am trying to find somebody to help me setup my dx7

Hi HeliGuy50, how far into your build are you?
I ordered all the radio gear and battery's tonight, I got the Dx7 and ar6100 together from Esprit model like the poster above mentioned, I also got 3 Hitec HS-65MG's, 3 Thunder Power 2070mAh eXtreme's, a Custom Idea HRPoly-X (low batt alarm), and some deans connectors (Total: $686.25 spent with Esprit model)
I ordered the Futaba GY401, and the Futaba S9650 and 2 Great Planes ElectriFly Equinox LiPo Cell Balancers from WholesaleTrains.com (Total: $237.46 spent with WholesaleTrains.com)
They have the Futaba GY401 for $124.99 and the S9650 for $52.49 with free shipping (I have ordered from them before they have GREAT prices on some stuff)
So, Should I just use the manual or follow some kind of online guide for the build ??
BTW I found out the Futaba S9254 that everyone is offering as a combo deal with the GY401 is only 4.8V
Thanks Everyone

Hi Joe,
Your new setup sounds nice. As far as my build goes I have the head done and the landing gera and the frame so far. Keep me posted on your progress. Good luck.
