Default $ no issue, whats the best battery for the rex

just a general consensous, whats the best battery for the rex, in the 2100-2500mah range, and can handle a pretty high amprage. Considering the higher kv scorpion motor (have the lower kv one now and am very happy but being the power hungry person that i am, its inevitable that I need to buy the larger can
regardless if i go with the 3s or 4s setup, it will be a very powerhungry motor. From your guys experience, whats the best battery available.

My humble opinion, you can't beat either the Thunder Power, Kong, or Air Thunder ( I think that is it). All three are great products and will not do you wrong.

I have three packs of each one and I can fly all day if I so desire and these guys just keep on ticking.

My pack of choice is the FlightPower Evo25 3S 2170 or ThunderPower Extreme 3S 2070. I have been flying these packs for the last 6 months and they are still going strong!

Goto Hobby City, you can get a 5000mAh 3s for less than $100 which is going to be a PolyQuest cell.

As for what battery is best, there are only a few cell manufacturers out there.

In my travels, most complaints come from Thunder Power and Evo users. More of the happier folks are using GP Power Series and Kong Power. I think everybody has a bigger expectation from lipos than what is realistically possible.

I used GP Power Series(PolyQuest) and Kong Power(PolyQuest), but I did have some GP packs that were short lived due to incorrect discharge.

At any rate, get a 25C pack whether it's 2100 or 2500. The more mAh you get the heavier the pack will be so take that into consideration. For snappy flying get a 1500mAh 20C, but if you are power hungry get a 25C 2100.

4S will give you more flight time, but you are adding even more weight and with these small helis, weight is a big factor.

Other factors to consider are motors. For example a Hacker A30-6XL 2500kv running a 17T pinion spins a ballistic 3100rpm head speed with no bog 3D for about 6 minutes with a 2100 25C pack. Not a bad set up for power hungry folks.

I have an Air Thunder 3S 2200 and it's quite impressive too. Like the Kong Power packs, it is supposedly puff-proof. I also have two FP EVO25 3S 2170s and one TP Extreme 3S 2200 and all three have been rock-solid (figuratively and literally).

Here is another + for the kong's. I trashed one in wreck and they gave me 50% credit for a new one. (FYI: ReadyHeli.com, great customer service)....

i have all the batterys i will ever need for a while (got 9 of them, i can constantly be flying since i have 5 chargers.) but when i do go up to a stronger motor, i would deff like to have bettery batterys. For the cost ($45.00) per pack, i love my electrifly 15c packs.

These are the packs that I am planning on running in the new T-Rex 500, if I can ever get my hands on one.[&o]

I am running Kong Power 11.1V 2200 mAH 25C packs in my stock TREX V2 with the 12T pinion. I have another TREX build starting soon that will feature the MedUSA 3400kV motor paired with an 11T pinion and a 4S Kong pack with the same specs.

The only drawback to KP packs is their weight. I'm going to have to figure out how to add weight to the tail to balance COG when running these 4S packs!

The kongs do seem to weigh a little more, i'm not exactly sure how much, but going from my 2100 mAh max amps battery up to the kong 2200 mAh, the size sure did get bigger too. I havent seen to many other people flying electric heli's around here so i have nothing to compare them to.

+1 more for readyheli, there customer service rocks...and there rather close to me so shippings quick

Ya, the Kongs are a bit larger, but they are 25C vs 20C. I haven't noticed any change in flight characteristics.

hmm, well i think that there will deff be a difference in flight performance from my 2100 15c packs compared to some 25c packs. Almost want to just save the 15c packs for my planes so i dont ruin them and buy some kongs for the 450.

Hello guys...

Those good batteries, kong power, evos, etc..... how long should they last???? aproximately how many cycles???? or they are gonna last forever??????

Because, 4 months ago, I bought 2 cheap batteries of 25dlls and they are starting to die, 3 months ago I bought another cheap of 30dlls from Hobbycitty and it has lasted so far with lots of power, I don't know how long it's gonna last but so far it's really good.... I am thinking about getting another 2 batteries to replace the 2 that are dying...... but of what I am not sure is if it's worth to spend 70dlls in a battery if I can get one 2200 25C for 35dlls in hobbycity.com

Sugestions??? Thanks

The cheap batteris last about 3 months especially in high draw aircraft. The more expensive batteries, when taken care of properly should last you af ew years easy.

I asked a similar question once and was told that you should expect at least 200 - 300 cycles out of a decent pack. More if you buy quality and take proper care of them.

from one of my old electrifly 2100 15c packs, its seen more than 600 charges and still charges past 2200mah!!! lol, so you never really know. Long story short, i have that little electrifly equinox balancer, and it offers a quick ballance we it discharges to balance, i just immediatly throw that on there when im done with the pack, and 1/3 charges/discharges i balance durring a charge. I hate to say it but i immagine its being discharged in my little 450 at around 31-35amps durring idle up so there going through a ton of abuse, but they still keep on ticking. The one particular pack thats gone through more than 600 charges, still has tons of punch and feals like new. I dont know why, but i have had nothing but good luck with these lipos.
