Default 12t vs 13t

Hi everyone,

Got a trex 450 se v2 with align esc and align 3700 motor with 3k blades. Was wondering what pinion and throttle curves people were using!! Tried the 13t a little but felt like it was bogging. Didn't push the throttle curve at that point. Was using a 100,90,80,90,100. It felt smoother for hover but lost a little climb out. Also during flips it came out crooked a lot. Not sure if that was bogging or if it was acting like a gyroscope? Has that happened to anyone? For now I'm going back to the 12t and using that same throttle curve. It feels like the headspeed stays more constant with the 12t. Don't have a tach or data logger to check on things. My feeling is the 13t gives too much headspeed and not enough power.

Would love to get your pinion and throttle curves and how it flies!!

Thanks all!!

i don't have all that much experience... no, i don't have any experience with 3d yet, but the manual states 12t for more stable flight and 13t for heavy 3d.

Haven't used the 13t yet, I use the 12t with throttle curve of 100, 95, 90, 95, 100 and it's great. I do acrobatics like flips, rolls, loops figure 8's and very fast forward flight.

just use the 13t and run a 100 flat the motor,s likes it. everyone told me this and it took me 2 month to jump from a 100-80-100 to a 100 flat. now that im running that i dont know why it took me so long.

heli does what you tell it too and you can bail out with quicker moves when you need it.

for normal mode i still skip around i think now im 0-70-100 and sometimes i jump too 0-85-100 but not often cause i have more control for hovering at 70

flew a bunch of flights on 13t... my tp 2200 v2's held out the best but the evo-lites felt like they were fading... throttle curves at 100 92.5 85 92.5 100... the batts were too hot and all cells were way out of balance and flight times were reduced... at 100 flat curves things were way way out of balance and flight times were cut very short... I feel the 13t is slightly overgeared... and it doesn't have a stable headspeed... it varies far too much...maybe what you need for some moves but I like consitency better... going to use the 12t and use my throttle curve to make it have a stable headspeed...

Just got a tach.... 24 bucks and worth it... seems that the 13t at 100% throttle was giving me way more headspeed than 3000...something like 3600!! I read somewhere about someone using governor mode so I'm trying that... also used flat normal and idle up throttle curves with throttle hold as a way to start and stop her... seems like a good setup if it works well... way to windy outside to actually fly it though...

here's my setup with that

normal mode
throttle curve 85% flat...giving me 3000 rpm headspeed using tach
pitch curve 35, 42.5, 50, 75, 100 gives me -3, 0 and +11 degrees

idle up mode
throttle curve 85% flat... 3000 rpm headspeed
pitch curve 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 gives me -11, 0 and +11 degrees

I use throttle hold when I plug it in and to shut her down
no jump from normal to idle up either!
should be able to pull her down in windy conditions in normal mode

esc settings are:
no brake
mid timing
mid battery cutoff
governor mode
quick throttle response

working well in living room!!!

somethings not rite with the numbers cause a stock 430XL 13t cannot normaly do 3600, maybe a tweaked out scorion -6 11t with a new lipo and some tweaked esc settings but vnot a staock set up.

i think a good base HS# with your set up normal produces about 3200 at 100 flat

Oops...not 3600... 3600 was the calculated headspeed...the actual headspeed was 3400!!

The problem really is that getting a high headspeed at zero pitch like that is that the speed drops to under 2900 under load. If it does that then the cyclic response is different depending on whether there is load or not. So the heli is more reactive when hovering but then coming out of something underload it gets less reactive. My goal is to get a flat headspeed under all conditions without sacrificing overall headspeed and flight times...

Tomorrow I'm going to try the governor mode with the 12t...charging batts as we speak... will let you know how it goes!!
Have a feeling that 12t will actually result in better governor control since the motor speeds will be slightly higher...also expecting better flight time.. and even more stable headspeed..hopefully without sacrificing overall headspeed.

Thanks again for all the info and I hope that we all learn a thing or two and get our heli's setup as well as we can!!

Just when I thought I had it figured out!!

Seems the evo-lites were giving me less headspeed compared to the tp 2200 v2...

The TP is giving me 3000rpm headspeed on 12t governor mode at 85%throttle and a hover time of 10 minutes without the LVC kicking in!!

Wow this TP 2200 extreme V2 is really great. I like it so much I got another one!! My evo lites are going to be used to hover around and for use in my Blade 400(runs on less amps). Still haven't been able to fly it outside though!! The weather is not being kind!!

Still learning something new everyday!

what,s the C rating on your lipo,s your motor is amp hungry and i would run at minimum a 25C

My flight power evo-lites are 18C 2100mah and 2500mah...which I thought was good enough from what the manual shows as amp draw(33amps at 9degrees)... but then I saw some charts showing the align 430XL pulling around 42 amps...

My Thunder Power extreme v2 are 25C 2200mah...they have a lot more power behind them... I'll be using the TP's for the trex and the evo-lites will be for my blade 400...

Both are very good batteries...evo-lites are lighter... TP are the best I've had.... I've got a TP 3300 3 cell for my rustler VXL and it sat around for 4 months of not being used and still had the same punch as ever... also have a TP 1320 3 cell of a xray m18 pro that has taken a hell of a beating... both of them push past 60mph!!

Default RE: 12t vs 13t

I just upgraded from a 450L (3500kv) to a 430XL...... I was using 12T......

What should I do now???? to use 12T or 13T???? I am using kong power 25C... I am doing some basic 3d, flying inverted, I want to use 100% throttle curve....... I have read that many people say that 430XL with 13T and 100% throttle curve bogs.... is that truth?????? We are talking about suddent changes in pitch while doing 3d...... better 12T or 13T???

if your doing inverted stuff then you want the 13T. you can make the motor not bog its called collective management i work on it all the time. doing flips and rolls you will find you dont have to move the left stick a whole bunch its all in the timing, with a 12T you will have to move the stick more though to make up for lost HS.

I don't know.....I use the 12t and do flips, loops, rolls, inverted hovering and haven't had an issue yet. But admittedly, I haven't tried the 13t pinion yet.

I figure, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and I like the longer flight times and less battery/motor strain.......

Maybe I'll switch out just to give it a try, but I've seen many people say they switched to 13t and switched right back. I'm sure it's personal preference.
