We'll have to do that. Thanks for the tip!
You know, in the 12 years we've been going there (10 days at a pop)... 120 days total, we've only had rain, and that was a super quick, very light shower, once. I think because we live in Michigan, it's too cold to deny stuff like 81-85 during the day, every day. Sun, every day. And balmy nights.
How's the 500 coming?

I posted some questions the other day, was hoping someone had some time to answer them, if you get a chance gibe me your thoughts. Thanks!
I spun her up tonight just so I could her breath - I feel like a kid at Christmas!

Very cool! I answered your question in the other thread and saw your pictures, too. It's looking good! Believe me, once you fly, the feeling only gets better!

I absolutely love the Trex, it's my 1st real heli, up from a Blade CP Pro that never really saw any airtime and ate a hole in my wallet. I also have an MSR and a Blade CX but they just don't satisfy the need. I'm 7 packs in on the 500, all tail in, still not even a grass stain on the tail rotor, I finally got to the point that I'm comfortable flying 3D on Realflight but still have major pucker factor trying to convert it all to the real world(No reset button[X(]). I have to give Scott all the credit for the excellent head setup how-to for the DX7.

I'm not exactly getting out Scott. Just cutting back. but the new Trex 550 keeps calling my name.
I only have the trex 450 pro now. I dont think I can ever get out of this hobby completely.

RE: my 500 esp is here
OK, I FINALLY maidened mine! The first outing showed I had a very twitchy tail. More reading about the radio setup and I set my Futaba to 55% ACVS. So, no real flight on the first outing... unless two or three inches elevation for two or so seconds counts? Next outing.... I burned up about 3000 mah in three or so short flights... just feeling it out.
I am needing to figure out radio settings more. I'm not running in throttle up mode, just standard to start with. However, I'm having trouble with the throttle being way too sensitive. The tiniest input and the thing is head to the moon. Yes, it goes vertical! I started working on the pitch curve, but am still needing to do a lot with that. Any suggestions are welcome.
My ACVS setting is a little to sluggish. Rudder stick needs a good bit of input, while elevator/aileron are about right for me... but maybe still just a little bit quick. So, I have elevator aileron pretty quick, throttle extremely touchy and rudder a slosh. Not a great radio setup so far. LOL! Hard to control rudder throwing that stick way left and right without changing throttle which needs micro input.
Either way... I flew it. Control was all in all easy (except maintaining altitude) and it came home all in one piece. And for me, that is a good outing with any Heli!
So, yes, if someone has input on Futaba setup, it is welcomed. I'm running mine on a 12Z, so I have about any option a person could want. I 'think' ACVS was what Futaba called that setting under gyro.

dumorian , wish i knew the Futaba stuff to help ya out ! i use spektrum. if you don't want it to take off like a rocket, just adjust your pitch curves to a milder setting. when i was setting up just to get used to the 500. i had a pitch curve setting something like -3 -2 0 +3 +5 in normal mode. the 500 likes a faster headspeed..so i had my throttle curve 0 60 70 80 90 in normal . you can always adjust as you get more adjusted and comfortable
i flew 5 batteries in mine today and had a blast

RE: my 500 esp is here
Yes. Yesterday I worked on both the throttle curve and the pitch curve. It all started to make sense in my head. I increased the TC, particularly in low and midrange and flattened up the PC some more, but was doing it by increasing the lower end. I had been working the PC down, but in fact needed to work it up before mid throttle. Now, it is becoming much more manageable. I'm very close to what I like. Yes, this thing is a Ferrari! My brother had a Lotus Elite for a while. He figured out that if you needed to sneeze it was best to take your hands off the wheel.
I do need to add a bit more expo on aileron and elevator and try out a more sensitive setting on rudder. Also, I've had my throttle stick set at very high resistance. I think I need to ease off on that just a bit which will help with the tiny inputs.
Either way.... this thing is far easier to control than my Blade 400 or any of my smaller heli's. It is extremely stable. I guess bigger helps a lot.
And, even though this low experience heli pilot, who really just started flying these last fall a bit, is getting the thrill out of it! I'm looking forward to moving slowly into more and more maneuvers and at some point some collective mode work. Either that or I'll buy a scale canopy of something that isn't supposed to fly upside and then fly it scale.

RE: my 500 esp is here
I love the TREX 500 ESP Super Combo.
It was my first REAL heli and is a blast, I don't have a sim and am not flying 3D but the sport flying is so much fun.
I have learned that as long as you're having fun that's all that matters
