new S9257 on my trex... questions
Hey guys. I used a telebee gyro and a tower pro $4 servo on my trex 450's tail for a long time[:'(] and finally bought a 401b (I know, not the best, but much better) and a s9257 servo for hopefully a solid tail. Three questions about the servo.
1. I didn't realize that I'd also need a step down in order to use this tail servo[] My align esc puts out 6V and it's a 4.8v servo. Will a 6V to 5.2V step down do the job? I can not find a 6 to 4.8v step down anywhere online. Or can somebody who uses this tail servo tell me what they had to do?
2. The S9257 is a bigger servo than what I was using before so the mount now seems a little flimsy. Is it normal to have an S9257 mounted to the stock servo mount with only two screw holes being used?
3. Should I use the round servo horn that came on the servo, using one of the farther out holes?
Thanks!

RE: new S9257 on my trex... questions
You need to use a step down reg to 5v for this servo
http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/k103...or-p-1888.html
Depending on your cyclic servo's you may want to step it all down to 5v in which case I'd buy something better.
I also found that the Blade400 servo mount worked better with this servo. You can get a Trex CNC version for mounting using all 4 holes but there are two types and I cant remember which one I bought.
I used the round horn, not sure if that was a good thing or not but it works for me

Thanks for your advice.
I found a really helpful thread about step down's on helifreak. [link=http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=43934]Link[/link] Since I already have the parts I'm going to make one when I get the time. Shouldn't take long. And to anyone who reads this that needs to make one, don't miss the picture on page 6.
Awesome advice on the servo mount. I found what I needed.
And another thanks I read online somewhere else that somebody had luck with the round horn. Now I know.

I got the voltage down to 4.9V with a homemade step down. It's still buzzing when centered[] Is this normal? Thanks!

The servo horn is on but there are no linkages on it[] I hope the 6V that it's seen before didn't screw it up (shouldn't have though, I've heard of people using them on 6V for long periods of time and they work just fine, just not as safe).
I don't mean to be rude when I ask this but do you own an S9257 or is your comment general?

digitals do buzz but my 9257 doesnt buzz at all. only time it buzzes is when i move my heli around. I leave it alone and its quiet like a mouse. Are you saying yours continuely buzzes? my mks8910 servo buzzes all the time but its working perfectly. I say you run with it and see if there's anything weird happening.

Believe it or not I've got tinnitus too Luckily I only strongly notice it in very quiet conditions otherwise its pretty easy to block out. Irritating though.
Back on topic, thanks for the help everyone. I've got a couple of tests to try, like seeing if the buzzing goes away when I flip the gyro switch to analog, plugging the servo right into the receiver, all to try and locate the problem. It seems to function properly though. Thanks everyone for your help. I'll report back.
