Great reviews, I would hate to see how long one would be of a 450.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../omg_smile.gif

I was actually looking at getting one of those quads for my son for Xmas but got him a RTF MQX as it was on special for $150

I have a mate that wanted to buy his son a little heli but the little cheapo ones that you buy from stores wouldnt be good enough and the MCPX would be to hard. Maybe that V911 could be an option. What do you think?

Getting close to finishing for the year and looking forward to getting plenty of flying in.Just hope it doesnt take 2 long to get my thumbs back.

As I stated in my review; I consider the V911 to be a good intermediate heli for those who've mastered Coaxials and want to try something a little more challenging but aren't ready for the learning curve or the cost of a Blade or similar CP heli. They are a fixed pitch 4CH, meaning they do fly in what we would call Mode 2; throttle/rudder on the left and cyclic on the right. The difference is they can't do inverted, or any of the stunt flying which requires neg pitch on the blades. I can do "half-pipe" and "Orbital" maneuvers almost to 90<span class="st">&deg;</span>.

The helis ALMOST as stable as a Coaxial in low rate mode; if your potential flyer has some decent chops flying aircraft in sims or video games with realistic flight behavior, I'd say he could probably handle it as a first heli. Ideally, you'd want to practice in a gym for a while before flying in the house. It CANbe pretty quick; in 100% rate mode it'll go from one end to the other in a couple seconds or less. These guys CAN fight up to a 5-7 mph wind; but for sure want to let him cut his teeth on it with no wind.

The V929 Quad is an amazing bit of Tech for a $50 toy; it flies like a coaxial but still has enough punch to do flip stunts and save itself. I've flown it with 20gr KeyCam on bottom and 17gr on top; it bobs a lot and save time is a lot longer, but I CANstill flip with it.

I'm working on saving enough for this little 8gr short-range FPV rig I saw here:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1778592

About $80 for everything on the TX side, plus I already have a 5.8 GHz RX which may be compatible. I know I should ask for it for XMas; but there's this little Chinese Android tablet I have my eye on and that's a higher priority. :p

Hi all, got 4 hours of stick time in between Saturday morning and lunch time today, being a public holiday. Made the effort and took some heli's including the 550 to the RC club. I watched, learned and then got permission to fly at the training pads. All 3 returned home without a scratch.

A lot more comfortable with the 550 and it is indeed easier to fly than the Belt CP. Did not try any funny stuff but did do a few cobras and one vertical piro, more due to a dumb thumb than intentional.

Mcpx will be going to work with me this week as I have almost nothing to do there as SA is in virtual holiday mode.

Will someday invest in a camera to do so as the cellphone camera only shows a tiny dot. As for not crashing or ditching, remember that I am too scared to try anything funny or is it stupid?. I did learn that using a lynyard makes the hands relax more and better on on the sticks.

Also saw the TREX 800E in action, flown by a master pilot, that almost 2 meter diameter blades sound fantastic. two huge 6000 lipos rides underneath it and get 12 minutes flying time before recharge.

I have a ,cpx lipo charging at the moment and will get it up in the air during the day.

Hi guys. Been really busy trying to get everything out the way before xmas.
First day of holidays today so took the 450 out for a spin. Talk about rusty.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...n/drowning.gif

Flew 4 batteries and called it quits before I crashed it. Because Ive been doing so much inverted with the small ones I kept getting mixed up with collective and nearly drilled it into the ground more than a few times.

Funny when your trying to land and the heli keeps going up because your giving the wrong imputs.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ey/msn/lol.gif

If the wind stays down might go back out later and try again.

Hope everyone is well and getting some flying in. Glad that the world didnt end yesterday.

Yes Merry Christmas to everybody, Been busy with the holiday madness not much time to fly.
I have a couple of days off and still no flying.
I got myself a christmas prez. a saito 21cc gas 4stroke for the waco.
I've been doing the break in and run in, She sure does run great. and the fuel usage is tiny.
The helis have had their winter tune up, just waiting for the piolt to give them a whirll.
Hope to soon. take care Hugh

Well I hope you all have a very merry Christmas!

$40 Keychain camera is on its way from the great land of China! Ordered it with lens B and I will buy the SD card locally.

Also had a pretty big crash on my quadcopter. Not exactly sure what happened but I think it lost a prop and being a quadcopter ended up flipping upside down. A couple of broken props and 4 broken motors. To replace these it will cost me about $60! An idea that I have to prevent having bent motor shafts is to grind the shafts so there is just enough room to mount the prop.
However the thing that I like about the quadcopter is that it teaches me 4ch control, orientation and has a very good response as I fly it with no D/R or Expo. The power on it is quite amazing though. It hovers at around 35-40% throttle!

I still need to get my head setup correct, but I think I am getting closer to +/-11degrees of pitch which I will limit to 10 with the swash mix.

What a boring apocalypse!

I imagine that the Trex800E must have been absolutely amazing to watch! I think thats what happens when all of the pros flew the Trex700 and then they thought "Hey, lets build a bigger one!" The blades alone on a 700 are more than twice the length of our 450 blades.

Hope all is well!

Its afternoon on Christmas day here and the weather is terrible!!

Weather forecast was a couple of showers but it has just been raining!

Finally got my head setup on my 450G/MT! I took a different approach in setting it up. First leveling the swash, then setting up the swash travel, then maximum pitch and then mid stick pitch. What I used to do is get mid stick pitch first then get maximum pitch but didn't get my pitch swash mix set up properly.

Hobbyking released their Turnigy 9XR. For $50 it looks very nice, but infact it will end up being around $80 once you pay for the DSM2/DSMX module.

@rikybob If you need help with the sailboats you can send me your questions and I can pass them onto my neighbour who has some quite amazing model yachts.

Looks to be a COOL @ S S radio!

I'm going to clean up the yacht tomorrow as it's been sitting in a barn then drop it in my pool for fun to see how it behaves!

Just looking at the directions it looks as if it, much like a plane or a heli is a smaller version of a big ole sail boat and one needs to know how to sail to operate it!

I've been working on motorized patrol boats for 25 years but NEVER have been on a sailboat!

I rekon I'll have to teach myself to sail?

All the best and a very, very merry Christmas to you and yours!

Merry Christmas everyone.

As Kozzy said its raining here today which isnt a bad thing as it was 37 here yesterday ( 98 F )

Been trying to fly every day but today is out. Getting back into the swing of things but time to do some tuning before I try any fancy stuff.

Hope Santa treated you guys well or will treat you well depending on where you live.

@ Jonesy. How did your first xmas with bub go? Wait till another couple of years go by and the look on there faces is priceless.

@ Kozzy. Glad your getting the 450 sorted. And if you wanted a 9XR you had to be quick. Think they sold out instantly.

@ Brian. Hows the guitar playing going? So you have a work wife.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif Must make working night shifts interesting.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

Was a nice fine day here today with a top of around 32. Thre was a nice breeze which made it ok. We still spend most of the time inside with the aircon. Bub has been a pain in ***** all day, unsettled and not sleeping, so it wasn't the most relazing day. I think next year will be a different story, she'll be into it more then.

We are just about to get our afternoon thunderstorm so it's starting to really cool down. No chance to fly any helis today. Maby tomorrow.

Hope you and everyone had a a good one.

I've been lurking about for a while and wanted to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.
Hugh and I were not able to get together this past weekend to fly any, mostly because of seasonal commitment.
I did take my flybarless HDX out and flew 4 batteries without incident.
That makes me very happy.

We have severe weather here in the US which probably wont effect Brian in Florida.  The weather forecasters are calling for a possibility of tornados tonight and into tomorrow.
I won't fly in weather like that.

Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas, I know I did.
