RE: Any readings on Saito FG36?
James,
Also read quite a lot over the weekend...
Tested it yesterday afternoon and got 7850 with the 18X8.
I have ordered the 18x10 and 19x8 and will try them as soon as I get them!

I know this is off topic and I apologise to other users, but I also know this FG36 is in a Typhoon. Check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo0Lv...eature=related and this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qexMo...eature=related .. Awesome plane.

7850 rpm on an 18 x 8 is barely 1.5 hp and 3.75 kg thrust according to ThrustEstimator. A strong 61 two stroke makes that horsepower!
MVVS-prop-power-calculator gives 2.17 hp and 7kg thrust.
Will be interesting to put a scale behind it and do an actual thrust measurement.
Must try APC props !

James, where do I get a hold of those calculators / thrust estimator?
I have a "Prop-power-calculator" which gives me 8.3kg static thrust, needing 2.69 hp, on the readings mentioned.
I will however put an electronic scale on it this weekend...

That's what I get W/a Saito FA150 W/a Dynathrust 18 X 8 when running C&H electronic ignition W/15% Morgan's Cool Power. 23% longer run time on a given fuel load @ WOT.
7700 W/the same prop/fuel on glow ignition.
I get 8000 W/that prop/fuel W//an FA 180 on glow ignition. Hoping to get about 8200 on spark ignition W/the 180.
A timed spark is a wonderful thing for power & fuel economy.

According to this calculator http://personal.osi.hu/fuzesisz/strc_eng/index.htm that takes the prop diameter, pitch, prop design & amnient temperature, that's 2.759 HP & 17.64# of static thrust.
The HP for 7700 RPM is 2.6HP which is pretty close to Saito's FA150 factory HP rating of 2.5HP.

OK, Here is field measurements taking with electronic scale (fish scale max 20kG):
SAITO FG-36B (Stock ignition replaced with RCEXL hole sensor based ignition).
Prop: Xoar 19x8
Max RPM 6870-6980 (Note: It is not optimum RPM for this engine in order to get max HP out.)
Static thrust 5.5kG - 5.7kG
I am going to use APC 18x6W in order to get my target of 8500RPM (8300-9000RPM considered the best for max HP output).
I hope static thrust may go up a bit due to low pitch prop working better in static conditions.
From today test I think 19x8 is a bit too much for FG-36 in order to get max HP output.
With Xoar 18x8 I have measured earlier I was getting somwhere around 8000RPM. No thrust measurement was done at that time.
Need to repeat my experment with 18x8 again and measure static thrust while waiting for APC 18x6W to arrive.
Anyone can share field measurements with other props?
Thank you,
Andrei K.
