Default OS 35 AX and Mac's muffler...

Greetings, I didn't get any replies on the engine forum so maybe someone here has tried the Mac's one piece muffler on their 35 AX. The question is: Mac's makes a muffler for the LA 40 that is slightly larger and would it give better performance on the 35 AX than the smaller muffler for the 25 to 35 size AX type of engines? (the 25 - 35 engines have the same bolt spacing and mount as do the 40 -46 size LA or FP type engines)

Thanks for any input!

Ernie

the only reason to run a MACS muffler is to lose some weight. It doesnt give back any power over the stock muffler.

Just in..... here's Thunbskull's report on the Mac's black mufflers, but this is on a 55AX not a 35.

Thanks, Ernie

>>> on the subject: I've heard from a few sources that the Macs black pipe doesnt boost performance much over a stock muffler (generalized statement, sorry). Someone recommended a tower muffler over the Macs.. any reason behind this?

Macs one piece mufflers do help on performance.
After actual testing, the original 6590 (made for the 46AX but fit the 55AX) gave only a few hundred RPM over stock.
The new 6720 and 6724 both give a great performance boost of 1,000 RPM over stock with a 13x4 APC sport or Xoar.
The 6720 and 6724 is very comparable to the tower muffler performance-wise but is lighter.

I had to try the special one for the 55AX and man does it add a bunch of power compared to the stock muffler. Night and day difference, like a MCP or tuned pipe. Still haven't had replies on the 35AX......

Good to know the bigger volume version is worth it. In the past, all they were was light and tough. They were also for some reason cleaner to run with less smut on the plane despite the stock muffler has a turn-away outlet.

Ernie, you may have to be our guinea pig with the 35AX

Got a 35 AX, Mac's pipe and Mousse can muffler (flying Z Hobbies), and does it rock !!!!! Don't have any tach readings to report on. The Glow Bee Tach I bought is JUNK !!!! (bought new and never worked).

Can definitely say there is an improvement over the stock muffler !!!

FWIW, a stock Fox Stunt .35 muffler bolts right up to the LA .40/.46, FP .35/.40, and is quite a bit lighter than the stock OS units.

The way the Fox muffler is constructed you can simply saw off the back end. With the Fox's exit hole enlarged to about 1/2" diameter I saw a very visible power increase on a LA .46.

Also, The Stunt .35's muffler won't fall apart in the air the way that long through bolt OS design is prone to.

A good 'ol Fox muffler fits them huh? Who would have guessed? I guess no one has tried the mac's mufflers much yet on the OS 35AX. I did get that engine finally but just haven't gotten around to putting it in a plane yet.....

Thanks,

For some reason, That doesnt sound right to me.. a 10x6 turning 14,8xxrpm with a .35? My TT .46 on the stock muffler turns a 10x6 at that rpm on 5% nitro... If it is right, that is one strong .35..

Man that's strong alright! What size header is it, ..... the header for the 32's or the header for the 46LA's? They will both fit the 35 I think but one has more volume, the 46LA size.

Thanks,

Ernie
