Default Irvine 150

I ran my Irvine 1.50
stock OS 1.60 muffler
Vess 17x6 propeller
Sig Champion 15% nitro fuel
medium hot OS 7plug
9000 rpm
Cylinder head temp never went over 160 Deg F.
Transition was excellent, very smooth running engine.

Brand new engine, Factory idle bar plug, 5% SIG Champion fuel, Zinger 17X5 wood prop, rich break in tune saw 9000 on just the second tank. So anybody know if this engine is a torque or a revver?

torquer for sure. I have ran mine on 15x14s. I dont remember the numbers nice and smooth engine but wasnt as strong as I thought it would be. The moki 135 had more power on the 16x10 size props.

I am used to my small high revving engines turning 10" props to 15,000 rpm. Just 9000 rpm to me is "unfamiliar". I guess like my four strokes I will be going with higher pitch props. So in your opinion was the Irvine a good running reliable engine worth keeping like all my others? Its hard for me to believe the 1.50 is underpowered when all my other Irvines (I have quite a few) are so excellent. Is 9000 a good static rpm to prop for with this engine? I see the 1.20 AX is listed with a 9000 rpm max useable rpm.

I never pay attention to the max rpm they list. I ran my 120 AX engine over 11,500 on the ground. The irvine I had only had a couple of tanks thru it. Yes keep it and they are great looking engines. i both a OS 160 and this one and maybe I can run them this weekend. I usually run most engines open exhaust as that is a great indicator of its performance and a good standard. mufflers can vary greatly so open exhaust is best. The irvine 150 has a small carb so it will draw very well and make great torque at low rpm. I would prop it so its in the 8,000-8,500 range for most sport planes. I plan to make an adapter so I can run a Jett 120 muffler on it and see how it performs.

Can you tell me how you mounted the OS 160muffler to this engine? Did you make an adapter, or exactly how did you do it? I have one of these engines and want to fly it on a Sig Four Star 120.
