flyeng,
Don't know if this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_29...tm.htm#2925636 will help you. Perhaps if you go the the engine forum and post there, William Robison will reply.

It's really up to how much weight you want to put on, and if 200 rpm is worth the extra weight.

Actually it should be running almost dry. Both of mine "weep" a very small amount from the front bearing so if yours is pumping oil out you may have a pluged or pinched vent line. If the seal is popped it would probably be best to replace the bearing, nothing special required there but it must be a sealed type. By sealing the exhaust with the teflon tape the engine is running very clean inside the cowl.
I know that the APC 14x4 has been an almost universal prop for the FA-82 but it never sounded right in the air to me so I have done some work and found much better props (but since the maker is not as accurate as the APC they need the blades trued). The difference has been very obvious in the air. So look for some other props and try them out.

Which props have you been using?
I've been very happy with an APC 15x4w, and am going to try a ProZinger 15x4. I still have some tuning to do on the engine too.

I would like to know if the .82 saito would be all right for my 50size Decathlon, or should i use a smaller engine.
Thank you

11000 static io a bit much for that engine, try to keep it in the low 10'S MAX. You need to keep a 1500-2000 rpm margin for unloading in the air.

RE: Saito .82a
Just tried a few props on my 82.
APC 13x4W 11900 (that is within 100rpm of my YS63, probabliy a few to many revs for the Saito but it seemed sweet, mind you it is a very short stroke motor and they usually like to rev.)
APC 14x4W 10400 (liked this one)
APC 14x5N 10900 (motor seemed unhappy on this prop, was sweeter on the 13x4)
Fuel is Model Technics Dynaglo 5 (5% nitro, 8% syn and 2% castor)

As concerning revving the 82 to 11900RPM - I would not recommend it. It's not the short stroke that is the problem, it is valve float. You'll hit 12500-13000 RPM pretty easy if you are taching that on the ground. This is not good!

After instruction manual break-in procedure (aprox 5 tanks, 10 minutes running each tank) in the test stand
Fuel: WildCat Helimix 15% nitro 18% Synth Oil
Prop: APC 13x8 Pattern
Altitude: 1,200 meters (4,000 feet) above sea level
Temperature: 18 celsius (65 Fahrenheit)
Peak: 10,000 rpm (high speed needle opened 1 turn out)
Tunned: 9,700 rpm (high speed needle opened 1 1/4 turn out)
No adjustment was made on the low speed needle.
The transition from idle to full throttle was amazing, very fast.
The tach reads 10,800 rpm just after the full throttle was opened and then reduced to 10,000 e then 9,700 aftes a few clicks opening the high speed needle.
Will power an Hangar-9 Showtime 50 tomorrow!

RE: Saito .82a
I am using a Zinger 13 x 8 and obtaining 9,000 revs peak and 8,700 tuned, I have this one bolted into a a Venus 40 size pattern plane and it seems to be to much fast for some aerobatics, I d' like to try an APC 13 x 7 but I would like that someone could post any info regarding this prop match.
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: Saito .82a
Just ran my .82 for the first time. I bought it used, so i don't know how much time it has on it. MAS 13x8 peaked at 10,400, richened to just over 10,000. Showed 6 lbs 14 oz. on the thrust meter. May try the MAS 14x6 wood prop tomorrow.

Hi Guys,
I have a used 82 that I purchased on ebay. The guy made a new muffler for it , a lot more volume. I was running a APC 13x8 and taching close to 11,000 on 15%.This thing is a real powerhouse. I`m afraid of reveving too high so I just order a MA 13x10 . I`ll report back after I try it.
