ST 2000 w/MS 16x10 & Mac's Pipe
Initial runs (not broken in all the way yet)
High 8900 with a little surging (about 100 either way)
Low 1650
With Thrust HP program that gives 15 lbs of thrust.
Going to try different props tomorrow I think.

As a matter of fact, I did try the 18-8 prop and based on the recommendation by an ST-experienced friend of mine went with the 16-10. Perfomance was improved by maybe 20% measured by static RPM and perceived performance in the air.
Used the 16-10 on the 2000-K I have with the same results. This guy's recommendation is based on his experience that these engine like high-pitch props more than RPM.
I also ran them smoking-rich at low and high end with an onboard 4 x c-cell glow lighter running ALL the time. Used a simple on/off switch on the side of the plane. I'd STRONGLY recommend this if you want good reliability with a rich setting.

Keep in mind the 2300 is a totally different animal than the 2000 and 2500. The 2300 will turn more prop at more rpm. My 2000 turns an APC 16X8 at 8000. My 2500 turns a Mezjlik 18X8 at 8900. The 2300 boasts almost 1 full hp over the 2500 (3.7 vs 2.8). ST also said to use 15% nitro and 18% oil for these engines, not 5 to 10% nitro and 10 to 12% oil (all castor) like the others. You can use 15% nitro in the 2000 and 2500, I do and seems to do just fine. My fuel also contains 18% total oil (castor and synthetic blend).

You don't need to change the carb. I bought one used with a perry carb and an ST guru friend of mine made me change the carb back to the ST carb. He played with the needle for a minute then and the told me to run it and see what i think. That carb is awesome! The throttle response is simply amazing with a Zinger 18x5 even with prolonged idle at 1350. I guess the trick is you need to set the low speed needle right, with a piece of fuel tubing blowing into it.
