Watch out, The Chinese are coming
Just got back from flying my Stinger 120 with a GMS 1.20 on the front. With a half gallon of 10% Red Max fuel through it, it is turning 8900 RPM with a good reliable 2000 RPM idle. This is with an APC 16-8 prop. I honestly feel that when it is well broken in it will hover this 13 1/2 pound plane with an APC 17-6 prop on it.
I am really tickled with this $130 dollar engine.

Watch out, The Chinese are coming
Sorry, I should have mentioned the two junker engines I traded in to RJL Mecoa for that price. Got in four more flights this weekend and the engine just keeps getting better, one back-flip starts most of the day.

Wow. You know, R/C Report's review of this engine made it seem like somewhat of a dog, rpms nowhere near that. Maybe more breakin time is called for with magazine reviews, especially with ringed engines. Your experience puts this engine right up there with the Webra and the Thunder Tiger. Are you using the GMS muffler or Pitts?

GMS 120
Hi Frank,
If you can get a copy of the Oct. 2000 RCM you can see what Clarence Lee thought of the engine. His statement was that the Webra was the only 1.20 that topped his performance numbers for the GMS. My experience is that it is very close to my Webra but has none of the mid-range problems which finally forced me to go to a pump on my Webra. I am using the same Bisson pitts muffler on either engine. The plane I am holding in the picture is a Midwest G202 which I crashed when I pulled up from a low pass down the runway and the Webra quit when I gassed it to go around. It stalled and went straight in. Anyway I gave it to my flying buddy who rebuilt it better than new and installed a GMS. I can't tell the difference in the way it flies with either engine.
By the way, how are things down there in Bakersfield, I grew up in the 40's in Coalinga and I sure miss those wide open spaces. Maybe not so wide open any more.

GMS 120
After two more trips to the flying field I now consider the GMS to be pretty well broken in. It is now turning an APC 17-6 at 9300 RPM peaked with Powermaster 15% fuel. The GMS with the 17-6 is pulling 14 Lbs. static thrust according to my deadly accurate hanging scale. Have not had a dead stick landing in about fifteen flights.

RE: GMS 120
[sm=thumbup.gif] I just purchases a GMS .47 I'm hoping this will be a good running engine. Some of the guys in the forums report horror stories with these engines, good thing that I didn't read these prior to the purchase LOL.

RE: GMS 120
I have 11 flights on my 1.2 GMS. Got it at MECOA with two junkers trade for $80.00.
Best deal I ever made ! Have it on an own design 950 sq. inch wing weighing 8 #.
Really hauls ! I tached 9100 on a 16\6 APC at 5,280 ' on the first break in run (breifly
peaked it). Only knock is it is somewhat heavy due to the steel sleeve. Carb is great.
