10x6 or 11x5
Good after noon, i have a .46FX in my sig mid star 40 i normally run a 10x6 prop in it and im pleased.... but i have a few 11x5's around here, what difference would i see if i put the 11x5 on it... Like what would change, also any possible tach readings are welcome.
thanks.
Mike.
PS. right now it's the stock muffler with the baffle... i have a tower hobbies muffler on the way.

well my plane is very light so it has plenty speed as it is.... but it had plenty speed on the old engien (.46FX with leaking head and a lot of perfomance loss) it has not been flown with the fx that is on it now... so i think with a 11x5 id go as fast as before plus get more pull (this engien is in much better shape)... hmm any other advice ?

Yeah... don't take other people's word on stuff like this. (including mine)
Especially with the prop "in hand"... try it and see what *you* think.
Personally, unless I'm looking for speed, I fly nothing but 11x5 APC on my .40-.46's.
I love the thrust!

Don't sweat it... just try what you have.
I just use APC because the black plastic ones flex a bit much for my tastes.
I'd use an MA or Zinger or whomever's wooden prop over the APC, if the LHS
here carried an 11x5 wooden prop. They only carry APC or MA plastic props that size.
I prefer the look of wood, really... and the slightly lessened slice~n~dice risks
But I fly what I can go and replace at the LHS at a moment's notice, generally.
As for the black plastic MA's, if that's what ya have, fly em. They still work fine.
(It just seems like a stiffer prop performs a bit better, to me. That's all.)

You guys should try diesel.
I have two LT40s each a with OS 46LA
Prior to the diesel head, they would comfortably fly with a 10x6 Master airscrew or 11x6 apc prop.
Since the conversion they turn a 12x8 master airscrew at 10,000. I going to try an APC 12x8 when it someday stops raining here in the Northeast!
Takeoffs and landings are much shorter now. The LT40 used to float down the runway on landing but with the bigger prop, it acts as an air brake. now, when you chop the power, she settles more quickly. I now fly them more like full size aircraft using power instead of elevator to control descent.
Right now I am working on a 60 size four star. It has a dieselized OS46FX and I'm told to try a 13x6 APC.
Oh, by the way, no glow plug either.
