Well, after a careful and probably over cautious break in, plus a couple of gallons of sport flying on top, mine is spinning a standard flat tip Zinger 18X6 at 9000rpm. Powermaster 10%, OS #8 plug, it was about 95-100 degrees at the time, slightly humid. I have an APC 18X6W that I haven't tried yet. I expect it will turn it a little faster?

Anyway, a quick question. This engine ran at the same needle settings for a long time perfectly, slightly rich on high end, and slightly rich on low end. Yesterday, for the first time, it had the habit of slowly loading up and dieing at around half throttle or below. I could sense it happening and had to slowly increase to full throttle to prevent from happening, caused two deadsticks. I leaned out the high needle just a tad and the problem seems to have gone away. Do needle setting tend to become rich once break in is complete? Could the low end have anything to do with this, or is it strictly a high end problem?

Many things will afeect the settings. temp, humidity, atmospheric pressuer, compression, ect. Sounds about right as the ring seats it is becoming more efficient.

The APC will be ok and possibly faster, but it will be very noisey. I would prop it down to about 8400. An 18x8 should do it.

You might want to lean your low end too. I don't know where the low end cuts off, but if it's loading up 1/2 throttle or below, I would look there.

Just started running 12% oil blend with 3.3% nitro and got 8700 rpm static on a Mejzlik 18x8. It just keeps getting better.

12% oil, zero nitro, $6.50 a gal home brew,..Same 8700. Got 14 10 min flights fron the last gallon. About $0.46 a flight.

Im running same combo as h82crash w/ about 70 - 80 flights on mine and 7% nitro 12% oil. .getting 8600 rpm..


Get away from the apc's on this engine..Mejzlix or Menz...18/8 or possible 19/6.

Depending which airframe you have the engine on.

Alright guys, here's what I'm getting. Significantly short of what all of you are:

I've used four different fuels 5% thru 15%, over an hour bench run time breaking it in on 5% / 20% oil. Runs smooth and transition is fantastic now that the ring is seated, compression is great. OS #8 plug. Below are maximum rpm readings.

APC 16x10 on 5% = 8700
APC 16x10 on 10%= 8750
APC 16x10 on 15%= 8800
Top flight 18x6/10 on 5% = 6800
Top flight 18x6/10 on 10%= 6950
Top flight 18x6/10 on 15%= 7150

I broke it in and did my initial readings on Cooper's fuels with 20% total oil and then tried Cool Power 15% and got the exact same readings as the Cooper's 15%, so its not the fuel like someone at Hobby Services said it was. All the fuel lines are large including the clunk and tank lines, it will richen up and go into 4-cycle mode no problem so fuel delivery is not an issue. Banjo fitting and needle valve assembly taken apart and clenaed, no change, same with carb. No air bubbles in the carb line to speak of. Head shim still in place.
I do have a Bisson Pitts on it with both holes open for the above readings. With one hole closed I lost another 500 rpms from the above figures. I don't have any fuel feed issues with both holes open, it will richen up just fine.

Could they have installed the piston sleeve in with the boost port where the exhause should be? Guess I should have looked when I pulled the head.

Hobby Services does not have any additional advice except "send it in".

Dr. Nitro should send his 160FX to me and let me give it a try. If hobby services said sent it in that would be the best thing to do.

HI TOWER HOBBY says to use 18 % oil-and 025 % nitro on the OS 1.60 FX so what is with the 12 % oil i keep reading here-i know in the SUPER TIGER 3000-i have used the SUPER TIGER fuel from morgan fuels-it is 12% oil and 10 % nitro and that is a 1.8 size glo motormy MOKI 1.80-calls for 18 % oil from the factory and 0% nitroi have read it runs well on 15 % nitro -there appears to be a lot of different rules for the same size displacement glo motors do you guys have good reason to run 12 % oilare you taking a chance of damaging the engine at this low an oil percentage ? i know in larger glo engines the oil can put out a glo plugthe OS f plug for there four strokes used in large two strokes helps solve that problem

Can be hand started very easily by back flipping it. Mine started on the first flip right out of the box. Choke it to get the engine wet. Then apply the glow starter. Back flip it and it'll fire right up. Use a chicken sitck and keep your hand off the prop when the ignitor is on. She'll bite you if your not careful.
