Webra .91 P-5 Aero (with video)
I spent a nice Saturday afternoon testing various props on my Webra .91 P-5 Aero.
I recorded the following using a Turbo-Jett muffler, 5% nitro, 18% oil and an OS #7 glow plug.
APC 14x8 10,231
APC 14x10 9,428
APC 15x6 10,302
MAS S2 15x6 10,706
APC 15x8 9,191
XOAR 15x8 9,074
APC 16x6 9,096
I think i'm going to like the #7 plugs. It gave me instant starts, a low idle and the Peak on the High needle seems much broader than when using an OS 'F' plug.
I took videos of all the prop tests and have made a compilation video and posted it on YouTube.

I was getting 9000 rpm on my custom muffler 5% nitro on a APC 16X6. Good power and good fuel economy. I had one of those turbo mufflers on a 160fx. Ran great on the ground and burnt out two plugs in the air. I guess I'm no pipe guy.

Yeah, i've read about overheating issues with the Turbo-Jetts on the OS 1.60.
I've had a few of the Turbo-Jetts on smaller engines from .55 to .91 and they've all worked well for me.

PC, glad to someone who actually uses the P-5 like you're supposed to. Most guys try to run a 14x6 and are disappointed. I run an APC 14x12 which it turns about 8,800 on Fox 5% with 20% castor.

I haven't tried a 14x12 yet.
What airframe do you have your's mounted on? I'm planning to put mine on a Great Planes Venus II which should weigh around 8.5lb

I had mine on a Cermark Sukoi 30, perfect match, I sold the Sukoi to a friend at Church so right now the P-5 is planeless. He put a Magnum or TT 1.20 on it which shook the firewall loose and crashed it.

CustomPC, thanks for this compilation - an excellent way to document a test session. Nice work!
Looks like that Webra is a good, solid performer. Those numbers on the APC 14 x 8, 15 x 8 and 14 x 10 are not far off what I'm getting on my YS 1.10. on 20/20 fuel.

I had the YS in mind when i selected this engine.
The plane i was planning to put this engine in is a Great Planes Venus II and the YS is a fantastic engine for that model, although there is a general consensus that the OS 1.20AX is better, if not a little overkill.
The main issue is weight as the model is nose heavy with the 1.20AX although it has plenty of power to carry the extra weight.
The Webra with muffler comes in smack on 800gm ready for the spinner (ie. no prop nut or washer.) I believe the YS might be a touch lighter but i'm not a fan of YS's.
The goal was to have the plane lighter than it would be if the 1.20AX was used and with similar power to the YS1.10.
I think the webra is very close and should give me what i'm looking for although i'm now swaying towards the new Thunder Tiger F-130S which is identical in weight and turns the 14x10 at 9135rpm on only it's 3rd tank of 15% fuel. I think for this application (sportsmans pattern comps) the instant response of a 4-stroke might be better.
My next model will be a Kyosho 90 sized mustang and my dilema is which engine to use. Both engines would be ideal in the Mustang as well.

Custom, I am considering the same combo - a Venus II with at this stage, either a YS 1.1 or an OS AX 1.20. The AX 1.20 seems the stronger of the two but as you say, it's also heavier. I am looking at a simple to assemble "pattern style" ARF aircraft to practice IMAC routines with.
I wonder what the new AX 95 goes like compared to your Webra. As it happens, I am putting together an order for miscellaneous stuff at Tower as I type - hmmm, wonder if the missus would notice this extra item...

I've looked at the specs for the OS .95Ax and the bore/stroke and weight are all very close to the webra so it should give comparitive performance.
I would guess that the compression on the .95AX is lower and it would need 10-15% nitro to perform as well as the webra.
On OS's japanese web site you can view their latest catalogue and they show the .95AX in the Kyosho Mustang .90 and have a list of recommened models including the Venus II.
They also suggest the FS 1.10a for the venus but IMO that would be too weak.

I recently got a significant discount code from Tower for international customers only and specific to my email address. Perhaps you got it too, but if you didn't you should check that your details at Tower are correct.

Mine turns a graupner 15-8 3 blade peaked at 7200 rpm. Unfortunately I had the prop throw a blade in the air on a full power pass, ripping the engine of the plane. Obviously it didn't fly very well with 2 lbs missing on the nose... So the engine is planeless until next year. I would like to try a 16-8 three blade and if the engine runs ok on such a large prop it would look awesome on a 60 size warbird.

I emailed the webra factory awhile back and they were running this engine down around 6000 rpm with no problems so it might work.

The Graupner 16X8 3b was recommeneded for the Enya VT 240, wide blades and heavy load. You will be way below the powerband, but it's fun to try! Your warbird's airspeed would also be a bit slow spinning a 8 pitch prop below 7000 rpm.
